Because we'll forget about the Civil War if they're taken down, because books don't exist.

who is to say whether a statue is a participation award cause of 1 time in someones life and not for good stuff they did the rest

robert e lee was famous even before the civil war for his actions in the mexican american war.

and he advicated for black rights after the civil war

so lets put this another way

why should a mexican american war hero and post civil war black rights advicate not be honored on government property?

Because he lead a band of traitors based on the grounds of wanting to keep treating black people as sub human property/pets? And then lost said war?

that did not answer why a mexican american war hero and post civil war black rights advicate (wanted them educated before allowing them to vote, yes he wanted them to be able to vote) should not be honored for those actions

That seems to be the stand most people take. The South lost and their efforts should not be honored.

He answered your question pretty clearly
not so fast... many generals fought for their state and family in their states. Could it be robert e lee and other southerns simply didn't want to kill their family members? I can clearly see how many famous civil war generals chose their hometown to fight for than the country fighting for its identity. Abe Lincoln asked Robert E Lee to general the union army. So maybe, just maybe... theres more to this robert e lee than we initially think ITT.

Lets use this opportunity to learn and read more about him together and find out if theres more to him than representing the confederation.

No its not. Your post is undermining the true issue.

The true issue here is they are traitors to the US who fought for slavery. Them losing is just icing on the cake.

If he cared about his state and the lives of his family, he should've convinced them to give up slaves and remain in the U.S. instead of spearheading a fucking needless war because they wanted to own people and not give up their quality of life.

How about taking down statues of the traitors against the crown during the revolution? Is it cool to leave them because they won or is the fact that they are traitors enough to burn them down?

Literally the most absurd logic.

You realize this is the US correct, you realize the US doesnt serve the crown? Your logic is literally rediculous on reaching on a false equivalency.
