I was enjoying it for the most part, but once I first got to the moon the game's difficulty just skyrocketed for whatever reason. Enemies just started one-shotting me. I have almost no motivation to finish the game because of this. I don't know what it is about RPGs and obnoxious difficulty spikes. Star Ocean 3 had one too. Plus FFIV is such a basic RPG that it doesn't really stand out to me the way Chrono Trigger or later FF games do.

I was playing the PSP version btw.

My interest in the game has waned. I'm just not having fun with it anymore. I'm glad I played it, but I don't really think it's the kind of game for me. Maybe I'm just spoiled by modern JRPGs.

Only thing you can do at that point is grind intensively. Grinding sucks, so I understand your lack of motivation somewhat.

That's exactly it. RPGs of this era tended to be grind heavy. FFVI was like this too, even though I enjoy VI more than IV. It can really throw you for a loop if you're not used to this sort of RPG. You also kind of need to go out of your way to do optional stuff in these games if you want an easier time grinding and finding better equipment and weapons.

Artificially lengthening the game time. Pretty much every JRPG back then did it. By the time you reach the final dungeon, you're usually at least 10 levels too low for it.

I also agree that IV is by far the most basic RPG in the series, or in popular gaming for that matter. It's basically painted by number

yep the moon is a bitch. But you got over the worst spike was the boss fight in middle earth(i forgot what it's called.) against Barbariccia .. it's before you go to the tower to get to back to earth surface.

It's my fave but probably only because it was my first in 1994/95 on SNES.

The GBA version of the game is the only good version of the game. Every other version basically sucks balls.

Its one of the reasons I prefer the DS version. The difficulty of the game as a whole is a bit higher, but the special skills you learn can vary up your characters quite a bit and eliminates almost all need to grind.

The SNES version is my favorite
you level up much less
but people complain that certain spells arent in the (US) game
it's definitely the first FF you should play

the GBA version has better writing but the music sucks lol

Pretty much all random encounters on the surface of the mountain could kill all characters in the front row in 1-2 hits. I'm in the mid 40s level-wise.

that was the only area in the game i had to level up for honestly

the other area's take maybe 10-20 minutes
that area probably takes a couple sessions on the SNES
I'd go with a third just so you don't die at the boss

helps to just throw on some music in the background
