One of the things that I find curious about these "Millennials are ruining everything because they live so differently!" articles is that they're frequently written by boomers and pay absolutely no attention to the fact that boomers are *also* living very abnormally compared to generations past and that's having some major effects on the system.
For instance, back when the silent generation was coming of age, the general pattern of home ownership was pretty set - you buy a small starter home in your early 20s, upgrade to a larger family home in your mid-20s-to-early-30s as the kids started popping out, keep that house for 20-30ish years until the kids moved out, then retire and downsize into a smaller house in an older neighbourhood in your early-to-mid 60s before moving into a nursing home or dying within about 5 years of retirement. Boomers aren't following the script, though. Boomers are frequently staying in large houses even into retirement and that, coupled with significantly longer lifespans (with people now expecting to live 20 years past retirement age at least), is gumming up the system. Boomers are buying and keeping big family houses, which drives up prices. That means young couples can't afford family homes, so many are staying childless and living in smaller accommodations; and since THEY'RE not upgrading either, that means young graduates can't afford even basic starter houses in many areas, so they are forced to rent. It's easy to blame things on just one generation, but remember that influence flows from wealth and the boomers have more wealth than any other generation at the moment. --- Kill 1 man: You are a murderer. The problem with millennial articles is that most generalizations are complete bullshit or overlook something important. And, on a more basic level, the entire generation system doesn't really work any more due to disparities in the speed at which people have kids. It made sense for boomers and maybe even gen xers, but the innate problems have basically killed the system.

I noticed that too. Also, Sears and Kmart are not known for high dollar, name brand clothing. I think there are a lot more problems with Sears, Kmart and other stores than blaming millennials. It is just a weird list because I've seen another list saying eating meals at home is something more that older generations do or did. Who buys paper napkins for use at home? We only got those for parties or holidays and that was only when I was a kid. Maybe I just didn't grow up in a fancy enough house but I can't remember seeing paper napkins at anybody's house. Depending on whose list you go by, I'm either from the last gasp of Gen X or an OG millennial. I think there needs to be one between the two though, as I feel like neither :/ I've mentioned this before, but the old generational cohort system is kind of outdated now, because the increasing importance of media and pop culture over historical events in society has sort of accelerated the pace of zeitgeist development. In other words, in the old days a cohort that spanned 20-30 years made sense, and would likely have a similar outlook and demographics, but in modern times 10 years is about the longest you can cap a group and still get them to identify well with each other. If anything, the Internet's usual trend of dividing people up as "80s kids", "90s kids", and "00s kids" is probably a better system at this point. Especially when, as you pointed out, most people can't agree on an official definition of what the older generation groups are and when they start/end anyway. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ...
