After days of anticipation over the second biggest jackpot in US lottery history, one person has won...and the ticket holder is in MASSACHUSETTES!!

That person may now walk away with 758.7 million smackers having beaten the one in 292 million odds to win

If the winner wants to take home the total jackpot sum, they must choose to have it in paid out in a 29 year annuity

Most however will choose the lump sum and in this case, 443.3 million moolah..minus the federal and state taxes that eat up 30% of their winnings.

Tom Rietz, a professor who researches probabilities says your chance of winning is roughly comparable to being that one lucky person out of the entire population with everyone else losing

Players have better odds of one in 25 of a lesser prize..

Those odds range from 1 in 11.7 million of winning 1 million for matching the 5 regular balls to one in 38 for matching the Powerball and winning $4.

This jackpot was second to only a massive 1.6 billion prize that was cashed out in January 2016.

Powerball is played in 44 states and Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Powerball's white balls are numbered one through 69, the red power ball is numbered one through 26. Tickets for the twice weekly draw cost 2 bucks each.

Pretty much wasted $10 but hey, I'd rather have a chance than not.

I typically only play when the jackpot goes over $200 million. But when it's something as insane as 750+, I had to shell out $10 instead of $2.

If you never buy a ticket, then you'll never win it. But if you buy a ticket, you do in fact have a chance to win it. I mean, the person who won it probably thought they would never win it. But they did, probably proceeded to poop themselves. And then maybe fainted like 10 times.

Kek. It only ticks for women, men are always good to go. If I don't marry a young 20-something heiress, I could always marry a wealthy widow later in life. The benefit of a widow would be that she already has the money.

While on the subject, there are advantages and disadvantages for each. An heiress might be stupid enough to not sign a prenup, but you've got to remain in that relationship (and she has to live) until she inherits. By contrast, a widow has the money but she'll likely make you sign a prenup and, when she dies, you'll likely get far less of the money because she either has kids or some pet charity (or just a pet animal she wants to leave millions to.)

The problem with low numbers being picked is that it hits a lot of potential birthday numbers that people generally choose.

Hell, one of my lines in my quick pick was freaking 44, 45, 47, 48, 49 with the Powerball of 15. When you see that line, all in the 40s, you're going to lose before the draw even begins. I know that technically, there is still a chance. But I don't think they ever pick all 5 numbers from the same 1-10 area. It's typically almost always 1-2 small numbers, 1-2 middle numbers, and 1-2 big numbers. When they're all bunched up like that, you know you're screwed.

Ironically, I always pick the numbers 23 (that's Jordan's number) & 26 and then a few of the sub10s. As such, I might have made a *lot* of money.

I personally think that if you're over 45 (maybe even 40), you should just take half and enjoy it.

But then again, with the jackpot being insane and even if you take it annually you would be able to go nuts regardless.

I just passed by the gas station that sold the winning ticket a few hours ago. It even said it sold the winning ticket on its sign. And to think it happened locally...

I loved the lottery episode of Sliders. They had ATMs, and the more money you took (free), the more entries you made. The "winners" would be wined and dined then executed. It was a form of population control that also helped maintain order economically. It wasn't a secret though. Everyone knew.

Because you might be able to make more money in the long-term through investments given the magic of compound interest.
