novels are HARD work. you're foolish to believe otherwise. there is so much to think about, so much to ponder about the characters, dialogue, setting, plot, pacing, background, etc, etc.

and that's just for your run-of-the-mill 60,000 whatever. i can't imagine doing it for such a convoluted story with extensive lore, dozens of povs, several plot lines, while also being the most widely anticipated book in the world by far.

i agree. it's another thing that makes such a long series difficult to write. you can't just go back and edit something in the first five books to make a certain plot thread easier to cover or explain.

not everyone can do that, though. a lot of writers HAVE to do it when they're inspired, when they're ready. or otherwise it just won't work.

He's definitely delusional to a certain extent. He talks like it's a guaranteed conclusion that he's going to finish the series, write like 10 more Dunk and Egg novellas, and write his Targaryen history books. It's like "you know you're 69 and not 39, right man?"
