well this is like a professional degree. You can get a job in any field if you get a high enough degree. Stem bachelor degrees are the only ones worth anything.

No. All degrees have value as lomg as people are realistic about what they can do with it and what they need to do to land a job.

Liberal arts degrees still matter in the professional world. For example, an applicant for an IT role with a CCNA and a liberal arts degree still has a competitive edge over an applicant with a CCNA and no degree.

and a massive disadvantage against someone with a CCNA and any IT degree

It could, but I don't believe so. I could be wrong.

Pretty sure medical at least falls under science. At least, physicians and pharmacists would. They're entire scope of practice is based on a working knowledge of chemistry and biology.

Medical is definitely under STEM. All the medical schools require math and science knowledge to pass their admissions tests, and some require the students to have a set amount of science based credits to even apply. It's like that for Pharmacy school.

History as a major only "matters" when people who aren't smart in any other subject take it in order to become a politician or go to Law school.

Going to provide some sources? And what are these jobs outside of Law?

And be careful with saying "highest." I doubt whatever you can scrounge up will come close to the dozens of STEM majors out there.

You still didn't prove anything. Where are the actual figures? I already said you can use it to become a politician, but that doesn't require a history degree specifically. A Chemistry major could become a politician, so it isn't the history degree that specifically makes you qualified to be a politician. Hell, our President wasn't even a social science major at all.

so you're defining whether or not a degree "matters" by which jobs specifically require that degree?

That would mean that degree is much less useful and doesn't offer as many opportunities and is not required or asked for as much, so yes, that's a pretty clear indicator of a less useful degree.

It has a very low utility and is less useful than a large amount of other degrees.

what about degrees where the value is in the learning, rather than the degree itself?

edit: also, there are things that matter that aren't necessarily useful for the purpose of employment

Eh, I guess we just disagree. It's semantics really since technically all degrees "matter" in at least one case. I just took "matter" based on the way the OP was formatted as strong majors that have notable utility and people with said majors don't have much trouble at all finding careers that suit their field (lot of options).

I personally do not see a major that can just do some things another major can do but even less is all that great of a major. And if it's not useful for employment, it's probably something just anyone can research and teach themselves with relative ease, thus I don't think it's worth mentioning, personally.
