A bit late to the party, I know, but I'm about 10 hours in and I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea. Such a huge part of the game revolves around climbing, but you suddenly can't do it when it starts raining. You have to wait it out, find somewhere to rest, find something else to do, or take a different route.

Why? How is depriving the player of an intended mechanic good game design? What's their justification for this? Does it get better CE?

Have you ever walked on rocks during the rain or when they're wet...?

Now picture trying to climb with your hands. Sounds pretty realistic to me.

1. You can still climb short distances
2. It's essential for certain outdoor puzzles that you're not allowed to climb
3. You're shown the upcoming weather, just pay more attention to it

I liked the weather mechanics of the game. Added variety, difficulty and it's not like it's unrealistic to slip off wet rocks.

The game is physics focused so it would have been pretty terrible if the world properties didn't change when it rained

Oh phew I was worried I thought you meant slipping like the super smash bros brawl tripping mechanic, like Link randomly starts falling on his ass while you're traversing the wilderness. What you described doesn't seem so bad. It's like how some areas are inaccessible at night versus during the day in other games. Same concept here.

Did you just justify the merit of a videogame mechanic because of how realistic it is? lol

Yeah the rain was one of the biggest flaws in the game. It's one of the huge flaws that prevents this from being GotyY or even the best Zelda game.

Out of curiosity are you for or against shadow of colossus slippery mechanism in the ps3 port where the wanderer has a very loose grip compared to the original ps2 game?

I feel like there should have been some sort of short-term potion you can make that would negate slipping effect but whatever it was annoying but it didn't ruin the game

The game seems to somehow know exactly when to make it rain in order to piss me off. I can run around the the fields as long as want and the skies will stay clear, but as soon as I start climbing it starts raining.

More like it should've been the Climbing set bonus.

I'm fine if you think BotW isn't going to be GotY, but it becoming more difficult to climb during the rain is definitely not a good reason for it.

It certainly can if the developer wants it to. Look at Kirby or Mario Galaxy.

I have no idea what that was like, all I can say is the original ps2 game was the perfect amount of difficulty in terms of grip strength, imo.

Do totally realistic physics make for a fun videogame environment?

Fun. That is the operative word here. Fun. Like, fun how you were able to hold lots of equipment in every zelda game despite the fact that 100s of lbs worth of gear would be too cumbersome to carry around.

I can climb any vertical surface with my bare hands. Get with the realistic times bro.

I liked that it made me think about the current weather. Same with lightning storms. I can't remember the last time I cared about weather in the game.

But I do think there should have been something that let you work around it. Like wet weather gloves or something.

I think a potion is a great idea. You have to find the ingredients, then make it, and even then it's temporary.

I feel the exact same way. Every time I want to start exploring and climbing, it starts raining. I've noticed that the forecast can change too. I've seen it go from all sunny to rainy in a matter of seconds. I'm assuming because I glided through an area that has a specific weather pattern, but it's still silly.
