according to a quick google search, he was worth $400M as of "August 2017". so he basically gave away like half his fortune. that's really impressive.

How does he have $200M now when he didn't even have enough money to pay his taxes earlier this year? He didn't make nearly that much in the fight.

Did he not have enough money to pay or did he just not pay? Big difference there. I'd imagine he has way more than $200 million in the bank.

He got 100 million for the fight and he still gets a cut of the ppv buy, which is, expected to total 700 million.

http://www.businessinsider.com/floyd-mayweather-taxes-2017-7

Didn't have enough in liquid cash. His net worth is largely tied up in businesses and other illiquid assets.

So either those reports earlier this year were wrong, or he's not giving anywhere close to $200M. My guess is the article in this topic is inaccurate.

I will never understand why people care so much about this.

Regardless if he did it for publicity or not, it's still 200 million dollars that will help a lot of people. That's a lot of freaking money

I thought the issue was that he hadn't paid his taxes, not that he couldn't pay. something along the lines of waiting as long as possible before having to pay or something to that effect, which makes sense because then he could have his money working for him as long as possible assuming he's not getting fined and penalized out the ass by the IRS.

The purse to him was $100M, of which he probably nets $70M after all the fees pre-tax. He'll need about $35M of that to cover taxes, so he raked in about $30-35M. Nowhere near enough for him to donate $200M.

$100m before the PPV and sponsorship money is divided up, but... Yeah, snopes is refuting this.

When it comes to donating, it's better to make it public than do it in privacy as it may get others to donate as well. Also, I hate the idea that donating millions to charity somehow becomes selfish because the person is perceived as charitable by the public. The reality is that they still donated a shitload to charity
