Like Vegetarian meat products? Some are quite good. I don't think they compare directly with meat, but they can be good

ive never tried tofu but i hear its flavorless on its own but takes on the taste of whatever its cooked with
so i assume with the right seasonings it could pass for something good

most tofu doesn't pretend to be meat. what you're thinking of is TVP or texturized vegetable protein.

That said, I do think tofu that isn't pretending to be something other than tofu tastes much better than otherwise, although I've a had a tofurkey once and it was dry but honestly decent tasting.

i mean, imagine a chicken stir fry....you have the flavor of the chicken + the sauce...now remove the chicken flavor and imagine what you're biting into just tastes like the sauce...

so its not terrible, just don't expect it to taste like the same dish with meat.

Isn't the texture weird tho? I hate stuff with weird texture.

canned version is better... i dislike the texture of fresh.
canned looks like the stuff they put on burgers (it's preferred).

I like tofu that knows it's tofu and doesn't pretend to be anything else. As a meat substitute, I've found tofu is often a bit disappointing.

Aburaage is delightful with a sprinkling of dried fish. Soft tofu in miso or clear noodle soup is always wonderful, and mapotofu will kick anyone's ass.

Tofu for tofu's sake will always snatch those trophies over those meat-pretending queens who don't love themselves.
