What ability would you rather have?

Time Travel: You get to travel to any point in your own time line. But when you go back you are in the body of your past self. You have all your current memories, and supposed skills. But in the body/time line of your past self.

Premonitions: You see the future in flashes. This could be anything from winning lotto tickets for next week that nobody has to pick. Baseball, sports scores. Events that have yet to unfold for another 2-10 years. You do not get to choose what visions you see or when you see them.

Is there any reason why time travel can't be exploited into being premonitions anyway?

Time travel is basically a permanent premonition

True in a way, but you're still stuck in the past and have to wait for your future to unfold.

What if i took very important information about medical stuff from now and took it back to past. Then wait until the advancements are made further, then repeat. I could speed up work of medical stuff, NASA's work, and pretty much everything.

The papers and information would vanish. You'd have to have a way to memorize the material, and then convince people of your knowledge.

Literally the plot of at least three different episodes of Star Trek.

I seem to recall Matt Frewer being in one of those.

Was he from the future or the past? I can't remember. I know in Voyager they time traveled and an in TNG they did a few times too.

I'd go back to 1 or so. I'd know how to not poop myself, but do it anyway.

Yes, he was in an episode of TNG. The story goes, he arrived and claimed to be from the future and stayed around to watch the Enterprise's mission to save some planet from nuclear winter or global warming or something. He surveyed the crew, was a jerk to Data, and got all rapey with Crusher. At the end it turned out he was actually from the past, using a stolen time ship that crashed in his time, to steal things from the future and bringing them to the past to 'invent' them.

There was also a few others. A couple in Voyager (actually, more than a couple). I don't think there was one in DS9, and I've never watched Enterprise. Not sure about TOS, though, my memories of those are intermittent at best.

I think this may have been a plotline in TAS as well.
