And many Americans get it wrong so no not so easy to detect.

No no, sir, I insist! It was plain as day even for me, and I'm not a native English speaker.

There are many Americans who genenuinely believe that so it's really not as easy to spot as you're making it sound

It was really easy to spot because of how it was worded, not because it was an improbable belief.

Yeah. But England is a subset of the UK, similar to how Delaware has its own capital but is still part of the US.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own capitals as well.

Oh and there is no British accent as each country as it's own accents and England has so many accents are untrue. What Americans tend to think of as a ''British'' accent is just a stereotype.

Its not really a country as that term is commonly used. Generally people think of a country as an independent, sovereign entity and none of the constituent countries of the UK are that.

The Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK at all. The UK is a Kingdom, Republic of Ireland is a Republic. It's all very complicated and quite well explained in the link posted in the very beginning of this topic.

No as it's not part of the UK hence the Republic bit at the start. Irelands history is something else that people should wiki.

Make them, mate.

Not that hard, and can be done with easy to find ingredients (I can find them in Korea)

I would say that this isn't that hard to get straight in your head, but then I remember how horrible so many seem to be with basic geography, so guess it's not too surprising. England the largest political body in the UK and(Great) Britain is the largest island in the British Isles. Only real tricky part is that "Great Britain" is sometimes used even by UK bodies as an official replacement name for their country as a whole (see the Great Britain Olympic team), but that is still shorthand for "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland."

Now there's an idea

Although I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be Cornish pasties if they're made outside of Cornwall

I seem to remember it having some weird criteria, like being able to be made outside of Cornwall but needing to be made with Cornish ingredients. That might have been for something else. I'm not sure.

Edit: I must be getting mixed up with something else: http://www.cornishpastyassociation.co.uk/about-the-pasty/faqs/

On 20 July 2011, after a nine-year campaign by the Cornish Pasty Association – the trade organisation of about 50 pasty makers based in Cornwall – the name "Cornish pasty" was awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status by the European Commission.[33] According to the PGI status, a Cornish pasty should be shaped like a 'D' and crimped on one side, not on the top. Its ingredients should include beef, swede (called turnip in Cornwall),[34] potato and onion, with a light seasoning of salt and pepper, keeping a chunky texture. The pastry should be golden and retain its shape when cooked and cooled.[17] The PGI status also means that Cornish pasties must be prepared in Cornwall. They do not have to be baked in Cornwall,[35] nor do the ingredients have to come from the county, though the Cornish Pasty Association (CPA) noted that there are strong links between pasty production and local suppliers of the ingredients.[36] Packaging for pasties that conform to the requirements includes an authentication stamp, the use of which is policed by the CPA.[17]

Evidently.

I've only been to Liverpool and London but by and large I think you'll be fine. Everyone I met was really friendly and as long as you're not an ass it won't be bad.

I was honestly kind of nervous reading about how people hate American travelers but in reality what I got was "you sound so American like in the movies" "get up and sing a song (karaoke place) do Johnny Cash or Elvis", "how is San Francisco I've always fancied a holiday there" and lastly "I have a cousin in Los Angeles on a j1, he works here, have you been?"

Nicest people you'll ever meet are in Liverpool.

Also if you want to understand their accent start practicing. Take your pinky fingers and put em in the corner of your mouth. Pull til it's as tight as possible and start saying "I'm a bloody scouser from liverpoo" in your best James Bond accent.

I'm hoping to extend the olive branch by at least referring to them and their home by their preferred labels, it's the least we Americans can do after a handful of our farmers defeated their entire army.

No need to extend an olive branch. My cousins came over and were here on the 4th this year and asked what we normally do. I told them we get drunk, dump tea in the Bay and then find an English family to beat up and thanked them for volunteering. I then told them I'd spare them if they took the message home with them as a warning. They promised they would. We ate ribs, got drunk and shot fireworks and England now knows not to try reinvading. You don't need to make us seem weak.
