Probably one of the stupidest things in the movie that was put in there to cause suspense only for them to make up the "only one time" rule so they couldn't use it as a crutch.

Nothing happens. You have to write the name correctly and think of the specific person with that name that you want to kill

also check out Monster. it's even more normal. it literally has no fantasy in it as all. it's an anime grounded in reality. about a doctor hunting down a serial killer that he once saved the life of, when the killer was a child. so he feels responsible

No. Because setting a death that far in advance is impossible, they would both die of heart attacks in 40 seconds.

The DN rules are not exactly clear about this IMO. The relevant rules that I found:

In the Death Note, you cannot set the death date longer than the victim's original life span. Even if the victim's death is set in the Death Note beyond his/her original life span, the victim will die before the set time.

If you write, die of disease for the cause of death, but only write a specific time of death without the actual name of disease, the human will die from an adequate disease. But the Death Note can only operate within 23 days (in the human calendar). This is called the 23 day rule.

If you write die of disease like before with a specific disease's name, but without a specific time, if it takes more than 24 days for the human to die the 23 day rule will not take effect and the human will die at an adequate time depending on the disease.

This 23-day rule isn't mentioned anywhere else, so it's ambiguous as to whether it applies solely to diseases or if diseases are a way to loophole out of it.

Oh, also, you can't do the impossible with the Death Note, so they would die in 40 seconds of a heart attack unless you took out the part about them having a successful HoF career in the NFL.

I like monster but obviously the villains ability to survive what he did, and their charisma was obviously unrealistic. That, and a better writer could have done the same impactful story in less episodes.

You actually could in the manga, but the time limit was ridiculously short, like 6 minutes. If you wrote something like "X gets shot by Paul and dies," then Paul has no choice but to do it. However, if Paul can't get to a gun in time, the suggestion on Paul will wear off and X will die of a heart attack.

Kira actually framed a guy by pulling this stunt. However, he first had to make sure there was a gun hidden nearby so that it worked. The patsy didn't even know there was a gun there when he reached for it and blew the other guy away.

It is possible to write an incomplete command, leaving the victims names out of it, only to complete the kill later when the name is added in the blank spot. Kira often did this, or even sent Death note pages disguised as paperwork for the victim to seal their own deaths by signing their names to it:
