That's incredibly dumb. It'd be like adding a South American prince to Mulan.

They should add a gay dude who's in love with MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU guy and thinks he has a shot because that guy's attracted to Mulan

Having a homosexual person in the cast of any Disney movie would work fine because, contrary to what you may have heard, homosexuality occurs in all countries, unlike, you know, different races.

Dude, I like dick, you can tone down the defensiveness.

It's a dumb comparison whether you are gay or not.

What dummies. He is a prince so he is obviously from another kingdom, it's added to create tension and drama, also because it's super racist to only cast one race so they probably threw in a white dude so that nobody could really say anything (people that matter like lawyers who could say "you denied this many actors because white" now they all had a shot. They probably let Asians Audition even though they'd never have casted us. Hollywood hates us)

Anyway, it's for this version of the story like how death note was for that version of that story

Aladdin never needed a token white guy and this decision has most certainly made me change my mind about buying a ticket to see this one.

They've insulted me twice. Once for thinking that I'd be more likely to see a movie if I had a designated character to identify with simply on grounds of racial identity. And once again for telling me that I'm meant to identify with the guy who gets cuckolded by the protagonist.

I'm sure he'll get some rebound chick, but I don't give a fuck. I don't need or want a role in this story, but I'm sure as shit not going to watch it and vicariously identify with the guy who loses Jasmine. I don't care for the pandering, racial politics, or soap opera bull shit. This is Aladdin, not some show on the CW.

If they needed to include a white guy (they didn't), they should have made him a Greek merchant who evades arrest when Aladdin rescues him. Later in the film, the merchant repays the favor.

That's it. That's all you need. A harmless character who feels like he might belong in a more fleshed out version of the original Aladdin story rather than one who would get in the way of it.

You get bothered by the silliest things. Remember when you got offended because Spider-man Homecoming had The Tinkerer as a villain?

Only because it wasted a spot which could have gone to a better villain. And why not be annoyed at something like this? They're disrupting an established story to pander to white audiences and giving them a shitty prospect.

It's better just to leave the story as it was. And if they wanted to include a subplot of Aladdin stealing the girl away from a jerk fiancee, they should have made the other guy Arab as well.

They shouldn't insert a white character for the sake of inserting a white character.

Hollywood inserts random races into movies that don't make sense for them to be there all the time. Welcome to our PC world where nothing can be without diversity anymore.

Just adding some much needed diversity to the cast. Diversity for the sake of diversity is always good.

I swear. Goddamn Hollywood needs to stop shoving white people down our throats. We get it. You're diverse. Congrats, liberals.

I can't tell if you're poking fun at the left or the right. Not because of you personally, but because of how much bitching and whining both camps have been doing over this kind of shit.

Disney throws multiple races in settings that don't make much sense all the time. This is nothing new and part of their inclusive ideology.

If your story is set in modern times, yeah, it should have diversity. But if you're dealing with a racially homogeneous time and place in history, it really shouldn't be a mandate. Don't get me wrong. I don't begrudge a character's presence when they fit the story or when the character is well written.

But a white prince named "Billy" doesn't belong in this type of story. The Aladdin cartoon series had white characters from time to time and they were individuals who felt like they might belong in the same world. This is just blatant tokenism.

That dude lost his damn mind.

I don't know anyone who insterts themselves into or identifies with a character just because they're the same race.

I'm just baffled that was a real post.

Which this guy could be? We barely know anything about this guys role. Again this just reminds me of your meltdown over the Tinkerer which you still haven't gotten over for some reason.

Not at all, but he's an unnecessary distraction. This would be like if a Robin Hood movie had Maid Marian engaged to an African prince. There's no reason for the love triangle or the accompanying racial politics.

I get your point but this isn't like Elba replacing a white god in the movie Thor. This is just a random prince being added to the movie that serves as a rival for Alladin.

It's essentially the thief Aladdin vs the rich exotic prince from a foreign country.

Again we don't know anything about the guy. Wouldn't surprise me if Jasmine has no interest in him at all and he's the guy her father wants her to marry. This is similar to the plot in the original.

Nobody sane will be distracted by this.

Eh, Idris Elba falls in Thor falls directly in line with this white dude being added to Aladdin. Neither Disney's Aladdin or Marvel's Thor are strict retellings of their source materials original mythos, so each company can add whoever of whichever race they want.
