I've never passed the Water Temple before so we'll see how I fair. Currently I'm right before killing the Dodongo boss then I'll move on to the whale.

The Water Temple. Damn.

I got stuck in that temple on my first play-through. For two days, I played it for about 15 to 20 minutes before turning it off. On the third day after getting stuck, I knew I was on the verge of not continuing. So I decided to knuckle down and find that key even if I had to search it from top to bottom. And I did.

The main problem with the Water Temple is simply that it's boring. The mystery would be okay if it was a fun level, but it's just a chore to get through. It was easier on subsequent play-throughs, but it's never been an enjoyable level aside from the two boss fights.

let me guess, the basement key? Yeah, that was also the only part there I got stuck in (well, and a couple of tries against morpha because I tried to fight in the platforms instead of the borders). Funnily enough, I had to use a guide more times for the deku tree than the water temple

It probably was the basement key. I don't remember the temple vividly enough to recall the specific details, but it does seem like I found that one somewhere in the lower areas of the temple.

On that second day, I was so desperate that I searched outside the temple to see if maybe the programmers had played a dirty trick and placed a key in a hidden grove outside. I even shot my arrow at the sun to see if it would do anything. I half expected some Hermes-like figure to fly down from above and deliver a key to Link.

You can't get the fire arrows from shooting the sun until after the Water Temple.


Unless I've been doing it wrong all these years. <_<

it's a good game, though if your 3ds' shoulder buttons don't work you won't be able to finish it

Nice. OoT is probably my favorite Zelda. Despite feeling a little dated these days it's still a fun play, and the 3DS version has much nicer visuals as well as improved controls in a few areas

L: You can't L-target (equivalent of 64's z-targetting), a core mechanic of the game, and that means you can't lock on to enemies and it's almost impossible to aim at moving enemies.
R: You can't use the shield, which is obligatory at some points
