...triceratops.

The 1st graders have time to prepare, but they don't get any outside help.

Physically I'm certain they could do it if they all attacked in force and wore it down over time, but I'm not so certain a 1st grader has the mental capacity to stand toe-to-to with the ten-foot tall, twenty-six thousand pound behemoth with a spike shield for a head.

Now if they all attacked at once it might inspire the others, but once it starts getting attacked that dinosaur is gonna be pissed.

I don't see any of them wielding the strength to pierce it's hide. Unless it bled out from like 100 paper cuts, the dino would reign supreme.

You've clearly never seen a machete if you think a 6 year old can slaughter something with one

They definitely could.

The question is whether or not five-hundred at once could take down something as armored and deadly as a triceratops.

triceratops tbh. kids are weak as hell and it would probably be the equivalent of using a plastic knife on a human coming from them. they would have to wear it down, which means the kids need to be in some sort of bloodthirsty and fearless frenzy mode. If they do that then maybe they have a chance

My nephew isn't 7 yet and he's a complete dumbass. I don't see him doing anything but crying to mommy and dying immediately. I assume the other 499 would be similar.

lot of brainlets over here. 6 year olds don't have the strength to swing anything strong enough to harm a dinosaur, nor will that machete be sharp enough to even harm it.

I mean, most machete's aren't even three pounds, so I think if they could at least use enough force to thrust if not swing. Theoretically, if they found some soft tissue between armored plates or on the underbelly, they could do just enough damage to cause it to bleed.

But will enough of them be able to do that before kicking the bucket so that those few who are left can just wait for it to bleed to death?

I don't think they can, but it's just a thought.

Triceratops had scales.
But so does an alligator which is possible to get killed by a knife.
But the kids doesnt have the survive instinct to win.
If the kids were controlled by a hivemind that got no problems with losing bodies, then they might have a chance to win (go for the eyes, try to find weak spots after that), but normally raised kids randomly picked from normal schools ?
No.

Yeah, but the human survival instinct is pretty strong, even in children. I've got to think that somewhere between the first death and the five hundredth, they'd realize they have numbers and go berserk. Have you ever seen a schoolyard? Kids flock to fights pretty quickly.

Still, though, mass casualties, and probably a ton of self inflicted injuries and friendly fire, especially with a machete, which takes some actual training to use as a weapon.

the kids would all die.

triceratops 8 meters long, 3 meters tall, and weights about 10 tons, basically double the size of an african elephant (the largest terrestrial animal).

an animal that size would usually have something like 3 inches of armored hide. forget machete, it's debatable if a small caliber gun can penetrate that much hide.

even if the 500 people are adult males with the machetes, hundreds would die in the process of trying to kill the animal.

Pretty sure they don't have the physical strength to use the machetes properly nor the coordination to make things count.

Dozens, maybe, but not hundreds. Granted, there *would* be a lot of injuries in addition to the fatalities. And, if they swarmed, they'd actually make very quick work of it (even if that would ensure that fewer people survive)

Granted, all it might take is one really good thrust into the right area to mortally wound it and then they could just let it bleed out. If they lured it and tricked it into charging at a wall, they could immobilize long enough to quickly kill it.
