I love older games and consoles but I can't for the life of me figure out what's so special about the Dreamcast. All the games I played for it have aged like milk or were bad to begin with. Sonic games were shit, Shenmue had aged terribly. I guess maybe there were some racing games and some fighting games but tbh i don't care about them.

Well, did you play through it or are you just making an assumption?

You need to understand one thing that's very important. Modern gaming, there is very little steps toward new and exciting, it used to be so entirely different. Going from Atari to NES was mindblowing and I still remember the first time I played it and I was like 6. Then the step up to 16 bit and how much games expanded.

Then 3d became a thing and the Playstation was a stunning moment for a lot of us, and original games like Resident Evil were games we just dreamed about and it became reality. Then there was online play when the Dreamcast came out, and games like Phantasy Star online consumed our lives.

It was the experience overall of the massive evolution of gaming and the thrill of seeing things for the first time. That doesn't happen anymore, gamers are more bitter, internet exists to look up how to do things, and there isn't much ahead to look forward to anymore except slight improvements with resolution.

I love Dragon Quest 8 which is animu rpg but it's charming as all hell.

I can't stand the trope of the soft spoken magical princess in these games. DQ8 had it but at least she has the decency to be a horse.
