Poll of the Day > My mother keeps telling my 4 year old niece racist things

And it's gotten to the point where my niece refuses to play with the black kids at her daycare. Today, she cried because she thought someone called her "black" and she's pretty much exclusively heard that as an insult for other people from my mother.

I had to yell at my mom this morning, and suddenly it's my fault for "blaming her" for constantly saying this shit.

It's gotten to the point where my sister is considering cutting her 3 calls per day to 1, because children shouldn't be around such toxic attitudes.

Fuck. Racism is never gonna end, is it?

One of the big problems is that adults think they can say things like that, even if they mean it jokingly, and kids won't pick up on it.

Whether your mom meant it jokingly or not is something you would know though.

Ah. Well being as your sister is unhappy with this then perhaps that's for the best. If your sister has talked to your mother about this and she continues to do it then she has no choice really. Perhaps your mother will only learn that way.

Seems to happen to people who grew up in poor neighborhoods more then anything. They think that because they saw 5 black people murder someone that all black people are murderers.

Exactly. Doesn't matter what the topic is: you will rarely get 100% agreement on it. There will always be someone in the group who doesnt like something for some reason.

right, it sounded pretty consistent but no one else said anything about it. If you have pre scheduled times for your mom to call you every 4 hours, your kid being racist shouldn't be your biggest concern
