Have you ever watched a movie with a plot about a gay/transgender relationship?

28 y/o Transgender Chilean Actress, Daniela Vega may be the FIRST TRANSGENDER Actress to win an OSCAR as the much buzzed about film, "A Fantastic Woman" is getting major oscar buzz this year..and it's by yet ANOTHER Sony released film where it's other movie, Call Me By Your Name, about 2 gay men falling in love in Italy is also getting major Oscar buzz..The movie itself could be nominated for an Oscar which gives Sony up to 2 chances to win its first ever Oscar for a movie!!

Daniela plays Marina, a trans woman whose partner dies after which she's subjected to harsh treatment by the family of her deceased lover and by police investigating the death

Chile has selected this film at the Academy Awards submission this year as the biggest spotlight is on Daniela's performance on whether the breakout of strength and compassion could make Oscar history.

Variety called her performance "a multi-layered, emotionally polymorphous feat of acting that deserves so much more than political praise"

While transgender musicians have been oscar nominated, no trans performer has ever earned an acting nod.

Daniela said "It's too early to talk about that, to think about it. I have lots of festivals to attend, lots of dresses to wear. The Oscars are a little bit beyond the timeline i'm thinking about right now. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. If we broaden our gaze, it will be more interesting, more beautiful. If we can make more diverse colours, people, stories, it will be interesting".

But she has 2 things going for her, the depth of her performance and the possibility of a long awaited Oscar landmark and could have great meaning for a trans community that President Trump has banned from the military.

Hollywood hasn't done a good job of telling transgender stories however and has come under criticism by not hiring real trans actors in roles that call for it.

Have you ever watched a movie that was based on a gay/transgender relationship before?

Yeah, no kidding. That "Tearjerker" episode of American Dad really nailed the whole Oscar bait thing perfectly. It was called Oscar Gold, and told the tale of a Jewish boy with special needs hiding from the Nazis. Also, his puppy gets cancer.

Not that I recall. The closest to that is Dallas Buyers Club that had homosexual and trans characters in it.

As a subplot, I think, or as supporting characters. Bearing in mind that, as a guy, I don't really watch movies about *any* relationships since that's really a chick thing. Granted, there are some chick flicks I've enjoyed. I watched 10 Things I Hate About You because it had Julia Stiles and the chick who played Alex Mack, which I liked. I enjoyed 10 Things I Hate About You, which I watched because it starred Kate Hudson. I also watched What Women Want which was kinda fun... although it had one scene I never quite got where he couldn't read one woman's mind. I wasn't sure if it meant she was secretly a guy or if she just didn't think. Oh, and I keep meaning to watch a film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Not sure which version I picked up, but I enjoyed the novel which I read thanks to some humanities course.
