A risk reward thing, but if you think the dungeon will go easy. Let the torches run out for better loot. I do that pretty much always unless it feels hard.

Don't be afraid to let characters go if they go insane. Pretty much this. I love the game, but I get OCD about saving all my units. Just play the game, and expect that your first playthrough won´t be the one in which you will make it through
Keep your roster broad Keep your people sane Don´t forget to upgrade all the buildings Don´t forget to upgrade your heroes (also their clothing and weapons) Try to have an Healer with you all the time, and even if it is just a few points, chars can only die if they are already at deaths door, healing them for only one point will get rid of that again (though they will keep their bad traits) --- I can't profess to understand God's plan, Christ promised the resurrection of the dead.
