Do you live in the US? Because that's against OSHA regulations and is illegal as hell. you have to have 8 hours between shifts from the time you clock out until the time you clock in. I know this for a fact because i used to work emegency outages at a paper mill where we'd work 16 hour shifts until the job was finished but they made a really big deal about the 8 hour thing.

Sometimes OSHA actually pays out rewards for turning companies in for shit like this, so document this every way possible and turn their asses in.

I think the only exception is like if you're a surgeon doing a life-saving procedure or something like that.

??? are you sure about this? what if was something like .. 7-10.. then ran late so it was 7-12 (or 1 i do not remember) then return back at 7? or doing 11 pm- 7 am.. but do to 7 am to 3 pm and return at 11 pm ( and it is not a full 8 hrs cuz travel and all that)

Fairly sure in CA at least it's law that you need 8 hours between the end of one shift and the start of the next. For hourly employees at least.

which is bullshit imo. it should be at least 10. 8 is not enough to get a full night's sleep. even if you live 5 minutes from home, dont eat and dont shower, you still dont get all the sleep you should get, especially if you have a physically demanding job

That is why where I live the mandatory rest time is 11 hours. And my boss reminds people to remember that all the time. Because sometime people break these 11 hours and come in earlier and then the boss gets problems.

You choosing to drive while highly fatigued is no different than choosing to drive after you've been drinking. In both situations you are not in a condition to drive...and the choice to drive is completely optional.

Yeah sleeping in the parking lot is totally worth it for a summer job you fucking clown. Quit trolling about something that can actually get people killed if anyone was actually dumb enough to believe anything you're saying. Thankfully, TC seems to have a pretty good head on their shoulders.

For this guy it's not. For a lot of other people it is.

If your school had you doing homework till midnight and you had to be at class at 6am the next day would you be so against it?

In college you mostly choose your class schedule. So if you packed yourself to the point you cant sleep you should adjust it

Yes

And in life you choose the job that you work. If you can't handle the amount of hours being asked of you, then you should get a different job.

Sometimes you dont tho. I've known many a people who work jobs that either dont give enough hours or the hours dont work around them.

Rarely with a job are you able to build your hours around your life but more often than not with school you can choose how many units you want to take a semester.

I'd love to know what school you go to that has you there at 6am. Also, you choose the time you go to in college, which I assume you haven't gone to.

If you're an athlete you're definitely at school at 6am for practices in the morning. Likewise, if you're in school for something like film or photography early morning classes aren't unheard of because of when you need to film/take pictures. But for the sake of adjusting my point for you guys...let's say you have homework till 2am and have to be at class at 8am. Same turnaround time...

I don't think the analogy is as off as you guys think.

Yes you pick the time that you go to school, but you don't necessarily get to pick the work-load once you're in a class.

So if your school workload dictates that you have to be up till midnight to do projects, homework, etc. That's no different than your job dictating that you to work till midnight.

Yet somehow I feel like no one would complain about school demanding a tremendous workload on people.

No, it actually is different. You can take breaks and do whatever else necessary to help you get your work done. You can manage your time and workload more easily at your own convenience. You can't do this at a job.

I think at this point it depends on your school and your job.

Some jobs are quite flexible but do require certain milestones be hit no matter what. If you're on top of your game you can manage your time and workload at your convenience. If you're not...you're going to be pulling the crazy hours to get through things.

Likewise...there's a lot of college programs that are designed to pretty much eat every waking moment of your life. I know my schools' design program pretty much made it so people had to be drawing, drafting, and designing constantly when not in class. Likewise my school's theater department had classes in the morning and then expected all students to be involved with theater productions in the evenings.

Let's call a spade a spade. People have no problem doing crazy hours for school because they think the school is worth it. Likewise, if they had a job that paid them enough money, they'd have no problem doing the crazy hours that it asked of them.

If TC doesn't want to work tough hours for Sam's club, that's great! But he shouldn't be wasting his time there then if it's really going to affect his happiness as much as he claims it does.

I'm not wasting my time there because I'm getting paid to work. It's a temporary job until I get my next one (which will be a an actual step towards my career goal).

In the meantime, I'll just call out when they pulled bullshit like this.

I just don't think anyone respects a brag about how you'll work some shit like 22 hour days.

Unless you're a surgeon literally saving lives or a firefighter sparing children from the fate of burning, chances are your shit can wait. Or you just mismanaged your time and put yourself into a shitty situation.

Either way, it's not really a brag in this case.
