I really liked how they showed the difference between Light without the Death Note and Light with it. Without it, he was pretty much a normal decent human being with genius IQ. With it, he was overly sadistic and pretty much a serial killer like Near pointed out to him.

Also, it was nice to see him go totally insane when Near pointed how him and Mello were 3 steps ahead of him. It was like a kid going through an extreme tantrum when they realized the rug was pulled from under them.

I didn't like Light with the Death Note because of how much of a megalomaniac he was, so it was refreshing to see him with his memory of his using it wiped.

...and it made for probably the best part in the series when he got it back.

Death Note is a show where I understand why people root for the protagonist while watching, but don't understand how anyone can walk away from the show thinking he was right.

Fuck Near. He actually made me want Light to win in the end when before I was excited to see Light get his inevitable comeuppance

I don't think Death Note's really corrupt everybody. Misa pretty much seemed like herself when she had it and even when she lost it. Though, I guess it depends on how often a person uses it. Light pretty much used to become a serial killer to the extreme.

I do wonder at what point Light fully became corrupted from the book. It seemed like the point when Near entered the case that he slowly started to go mad. It was kind of funny how even up to that point he was calm and collected, and then once Near was like "We switched it TWICE. I have the real Death Note." Light was like that guy that loses his shit when he realizes he lost a game.

It's not the death note itself that corrupts you it's the power that it gives you. Think about it you have the power to kill anyone anywhere at any time in any way. Now do you honestly think that the majority (if not the entirety) of this planets population won't abuse that power to the point where they become as infamous as Stalin, Hitler (sorry Godwin), or Pol-Pot?

That's why I coined Yagami's Law because whenever the topic of actually getting a hold of a death note is brought up it always brings out the worst in people.

Also after finishing this series, I still say Light in the Netflix movie was a dumb ass to the max.


You discover that said book is actually magical and kills people. What do you do? Read it in public and explain that it kills people. Pretty much incriminating yourself from the get go. Also, when they were on the trail of Kira. Light stopped killing people, so right there they could have easily figured out who or where he was. Specially when he didn't kill his dad. L was also a colossal dumb ass too, and the Note book pretty much contradicted itself to the max at the end.

Somebody brought up the idea that the netflix movie would have worked better a sequel, where Ryuk drops the book off in Seattle. But then it would have to use an adult or older Near, who would likely put the smack down instantly on the person using the Death Note in Seattle. Due to his prior experience with it.
