Do you think the Trump Administration made the right decision?

Helen Huynh from California is battling cancer and is in danger of dying after US immigration authorities repeatedly DENIED her sister from traveling to America because they are afraid that she won't LEAVE!!

Helen is diagnosed with myeloid leukemia, an oncological condition that affects bone marrow on Valentine's Day 2017.

Doctors at the University of California Irvine Medical Centre were confident they could treat it if she had a family member with a stem cell transplant that would save her life...and apparently, her sister is a 100% match according to Helen's daughter, Yvonne AiVan Murray

She said "We were all like, Hallelujah, All we have to do is fly her over here. And that's when everything fell apart"

Helen's sister, Thuy lives in Vietnam and has never been to the US but has been trying to apply for a visa to enter America but is repeatedly rejected by authorities.

The Trump Administration said they are no confident that she would return to Vietnam once her visa expires and does not trust her to enter the country.

It said "Evidence may come in many forms, but when considered together, it must be enough for the interviewing officer to conclude that the applicant's overall circumstances, including social, family, economic and other ties abroad, will compel him or her to leave the united states at the end of the temporary stay. Regrettably, Ms. Nguyen was unable to establish to the satisfaction of the interviewing officer that her employment, financial and family situation in Vietnam constituted sufficient ties to compel her to depart the United States"

Yvonne says "It's stupid. They are looking at you and want to see you went out of your country and came back. But in my aunt's case, she's had no interest in visiting other countries...she's not poor, but that's the mentality that these interviewers have: if you are from a less developed country, you won't leave. We feel betrayed...we feel like we're doing everything we can, we can show that we are Americans, yet there is only thing preventing us from getting the stem cell transplant"

Now the family says they have been abandoned by the US beliving they are caught in a bureacratic nightmare that will cost Helen her life.

The government has denied them THREE times as even the doctors tried to interject and to state that this is her best chance at recovery but it wasn't enough as the Trump Administration has been very strict on who is wanting to come to the country and is apparently cracking down on foreigners from entering.

Do you think the Trump Administration made the right decision to Deny the sister from coming to America?

Keep her under surveillance and send the family a bill if need-be, but at least put that on the table.

Maybe. He flip-flops a lot and doesn't accomplish much. Why expect success here?

Pretty much. This is a fairly unique situation, and I can't imagine it'd be too hard to keep tabs on her and deport her if she does try to stick around.

Basically this. I mean I'm all for stricter immigration laws I even support the wall. However there should be some lead way in situations like this. Especially since this is America and in America no matter how guilty a person may look or act suspicion of a crime doesn't actually constitute a crime.
So unless she actually tries to stay here illegal which she hasn't done. I don't think we should punish her based on a "I think she might" scenario.

Yeah, like give her an ankle bracelet and "house arrest" her to part of the city. I highly doubt she'd risk her sister's life to sneak away. Ship her back ASAP. Done.

I was thinking ankle bracelet. Granted, if we go that route, the logical extension is to start putting an ankle bracelet on everyone that gets a visa (or even every tourist) to make sure they don't overstay their welcome, but the logistics of such an idea mean the slope isn't quite that slippery just yet.

They'd probably just "randomly select" visa entrants for the bracelets lol

why can't they just let her come in, do the operation then see what happens, and if the sister refuses to leave they deport her? I don't get what the big deal is. 1. there is no proof she will raise a fuss and 2. even if she does, they act like it will be super hard for the american government to make 1 lady leave the country

Well, she's not "going to die because Trump" considering that there may be other alternatives. This is just the most convenient option. However, there's probably some way to work this out.

Matches are pretty uncommon. A Vietnamese person only has a 42% chance of finding one match, let alone a second. That rate is substantially higher among family members, but I'm guessing that's been ruled out.
