Between that cutscene and the end of MGS3, I will forever be mystified by how MGS had such beautiful, moving moments mixed in with such utter tripe in almost equal measure. I’ve never seen a series in ANY medium, be it film, TV, books, games, etc. that veers so wildly back and forth between brilliance and schlock.

In the end, partially because I played them all for the first time a couple years ago rather than growing up on them, I’m almost more frustrated by how phenomenal the series almost was than anything. They’re still great overall and legendary for a reason, but imagine if they didn’t have shit like Otacon’s sister interspersed throughout.

I can only agree, but even though 4 was a shart-tier mgs game, I honestly had a blast playing it online up until they closed down the servers.

5, on the other hand, always felt incomplete, because it was.

I could not agree less. Otacon is an excellent contrast to Snake's calm, collected attitude, while still bringing his own level of expertise to the table

he's fine when he's going over technical stuff, and funny in the MGS2 codecs, but his romantic/sexual escapades and their conclusions are just so trash and don't lead to any character development since they happen in every game he's in
