Better than ice cubes but I'd rather have my whiskey neat if it's a good whiskey. If it's Jack or something that shit is gone before the cubes can melt significantly. I'm talking within 5 minutes lol so it's not useful to me imo

I just use one of those large ice cube trays


Less surface area means the ice doesnt melt as fast.

You know what else can cool down your drink? A refrigerator. Or drink it at room temp like an adult. I don't drink liquor to be refreshed and cooling it down often inhibits the flavor.
The only time I drink cold liquor is in a mixed drink or cocktail, in which case I don't care about the ice diluting the flavor. You know what they use in shakers? Ice. Not gimmick stones.

They're a scam bruhbruh. I got some a few years ago as a gift, used them once, and chucked em in the disposal shortly after. Big round icecubes are best for whisky glasses.

I think they're cool as a novelty but here is the deal.

1. In the case of whiskey, you actually want ice to melt in the drink as this separates some of the compounds that are not water soluble and changes the taste of the alcohol beyond "watering it down"

It's most noticable in absinthe where pouring water into what is generally a translucent green liquor into an opaque white liquor.

2. The stones don't really cool anything down very well. They're about as effective as a frosted glass at cooling down liquor, but less effective as a frosted glass at stopping a cold drink from warming up when poured into a non frosted glass

3. Unless you're drinking with a straw or something, you always have to watch out to make sure you don't get the stones in your mouth. with ice, it doesn't matter, you can just eat the ice.

I don't like Bourbon/whiskey to be cold, the flavor is best at room temperature.

I will add a piece of an ice cube at times to open it up.

They also make great snowball "cores" if you are an evil child.

They suck, don't even work. They lose their chill so quickly the whiskey isn't cooled at all, and now you have fucking rocks in your drink.
