This is stupid for more than one reason. Satellites would definitely cost a lot more than 200k.

Why is it that only people in the entertainment industry seem to be in the news for claiming that the earth is flat? It's almost like this is being done for publicity or something rather than because anybody actually believes it =p

Probably is a publicity stunt in this case since 200k wouldn't fund a single satellite. The problem is there are gullible people who believe in this so would fund it anyway. People like this are just out there to monetize on that gullibility.

But they dont want the truth...
Everything that satellite sends back will be called fake, either Nasa hacked it or the rapper is in a conspiracy with Nasa.
As for the price... it is possible to send up a working cubesat for half that price. I read something about how it can be even cheaper to build microsatellites if you build one from an Iphone, I want to remember that Nasa even did it.

Apparently. The issue is the gullible people who believe in it though. Then they will spread it around to other people.

Because the only people that regularly end up in the news for anything are people in the entertainment industry and politicians, and politicians generally have the good sense to recognize that publicly proclaiming belief in a flat earth would be career suicide. People in the entertainment industry aren't the only ones making these claims, they're just the only ones anyone cares about enough to notice when they do.

That's a solid way to scam money. Even if they manage to get a satellite (they won't) flat earthers would just say he's part of the conspiracy, or someone rigged it or something.

I do have to say I like the idea of flat earthers trying to launch a satellite. How do they think it's going to stay up there?

No average joe is going to make headlines for believing the Earth is flat.
