I can't stand them and much prefer a lower bed. I feel like they're pointless nowadays with a bed on a platform or slats.

I'm on a queen mattress on a nice Ikea slatted frame with a center bar. Whole thing is iron except for the slats

Pretty much pointless nowadays. They make the wood brace high enough to just have the mattress over the frame.

When I was in high school and lived on my own I had a twin mattress that I was too big for on the floor so pretty much nothing phases me as far as comfort goes, and even I notice the improvement from a box spring.

You need one unless you're sleeping on a cheapass one sided mattress. They make low profile ones.

I have a high bed frame and low profile boxspring but my mattress is so widethat I'm still pretty high up off the ground. You get used to it though. Just be careful not to fall out.

I still don't understand why one would need a boxspring, wouldn't any platform work?
