i finally played the galaxy series. i always thought they had huge open levels filled with stars like sm64, but it's just another level-based linear garbo. is sunshine or some other 3d mario game i don't know about similar to 64?

Sunshine is like 64. I don't recall any others being similar to those two except Odyssey might be.

Super Mario Sunshine is the only other 3D Mario game that is like SM64. Of course, Odyssey looks to be a true successor in that regard, but it's still a month away from release.
