It's a really peaceful serene anime with beautiful scenery and music. Takes place inside an animal enclosure, but the animals are humanized. MC is called Bag-chan because she doesn't know her name and she's wearing a bag.

Definitely watch it.

This. The show had a budget equivalent to three rubber bands and a pack of gum, so the animation was awful, but everything else about the show is amazing. The characters, the story, the world-building, the background behind the park, the secrets, the cuteness... it's just a really fun show that was made from a labor of love.

Unfortunately, the director who led that labor of love got fired by Kadokawa, the big studio calling the shots. They basically Hideo Kojima'd him.

Didn't they basically get rid of the entire team that worked on it?

Edit: Looks like the director was let go and the rest of the staff quit.

Yep, the staff quit in support of Tatsuki after he got fired. Kadokawa had little faith in the show in the beginning and told Tatsuki he had free reign to do whatever with the IP they dug up from obscurity. Then they saw the show become a gigantic success and basically said "okay give us the full creative rights to this cash cow" before they fired Tatsuki. After the enormous fan backlash (at one point, Kemono Friends had 4 of the top 10 worldwide Twitter trends at once) Kadokawa even "leaked" confirmation of a long-awaited third season of A Certain Magical Index in a feeble, desperate attempt to divert attention away from the Kemono Friends fiasco. It didn't work.

The whole thing is an absolute mess, and fans are fucking pissed.

No but it's cute and light hearted and above all else you could see the passion in the staff and VAs, Think of RWBY before Monty died and multiply it times a thousand, that's what this show is, to see people like that get treated that bad by corporate sleezebags pisses alot of people off.

I just read his open letter and I'm conflicted. RWBY is ultimately Monty's project but Kerry and the rest of the staff have handled seasons 3-4 much more efficiently and with better pacing than when Monty was in charge.

I don't think it's George Lucas-tier meddling but sounds like Monty wanted to do things his way and it was taking too long and wasn't nearly as efficient.

Not my kind of show, but yeah it's a fun show that is self aware of how poorly budgeted it is that is just well.. cute. If you're into that kind of stuff, you will enjoy it.
