Eh? I guess it's an ad for that, but it's a good movie otherwise. I don't mind it.

You would if you lived in NOLA. Nobody here like Essence fest, the whole city closes for the weekend because there's no money in staying open as fest goers frequently steal and break shit. Even people in the service industry hate it, Essence weekend is always met with groans, we've been trying to get rid of it for years because it's a giant money sink but can't without constant accusations of racism every time the subject comes up

Well maybe if the people coming here for the fest actually spent money, didn't steal, and cause more in property damage than the fest makes back in revenue there wouldn't be a stigma against it from locals

Speaking from the exeprenice of a similar event.

Your speaking almost entirely from confirmation bias.

Last year CIAA went off pretty much without a hitch, and generated a lot of money for the city.

But it's a failure because of an unrelated (at best it's no direct relation) shooting from celebs that frequent the city anyway

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about

Nobody likes Essence, It's a failure because it's a colossal money sink that brings chaos, pain, and suffering to locals. There's a reason why 90 percent of business owners around the Quarter or the city in general close down for that weekend because there's no money in it and it's not worth the lost merchandise and damage that will inevitably happpen

My aunt and uncle used to be really high up at the Hilton here and some fancy restaurants and I have stories for days of just the lack of just simply giving a fuck about anyone else from fest goers on so many ends it's insane.

I obviously know what I'm talking about if I'm speaking purely andoctally from my experience with a similar event.

They say the same kind of stuff about CIAA every year and it's still the cities biggest event.

Essence is nowhere near the largest fest in NOLA, it's huge, but it's still an unprofitable money sink because of all the damage caused by fest goers. The organization behind Essence is profitable, however the city is supposed to get a cut and always what they get is an insulting ammount after all the damages by fest goers have been paid because the city is left with the clean up bill

We don't have this much costs from damages associated with fucking Mardi Gras, Essence has no excuse
