A few of you might remember me talking a couple weeks ago about how my mother was dying. Well, it's over now. I gave my father a call Wednesday night to see if our plans to meet up yesterday were still good and he told me she was pretty much in the final stages. Was hoping to get over there yesterday afternoon but when I woke up I checked my phone and saw my dad had called me five times (I keep my phone on vibrate so it doesn't wake me up if it's not in my bedroom). Pretty much knew what it was going to be, either she was gone or had been taken to the hospital and would soon be gone. Ended up being the former. Passed away in her sleep in the early morning.

It's hard to really put into words how I feel. My mom suffered from MS so her condition has been gradually deteriorating for almost my entire life. The past few months it's been obvious things weren't going well and I've known for a few weeks that this was imminent. I think in some ways that's made it easier, I pretty much already came to terms with it before it even happened. I was pretty out of it for an hour or so yesterday but I've been able to keep it together mostly fine since then. Only tough time was when I went over to visit my father. My mother has been mostly bedridden for years, and seeing her bed completely empty was pretty weird.

Don't know why but I felt like talking about this. So yeah. Thanks for existing board 8.

If there's one person in the world that can handle something difficult okay, it's my father. He seemed to be holding up better than me last night. He's always been that way. This guy once had a sudden collapse while he was helping my mother eat, just went limp and fell. My mom was terrified, I was freaked out when she called me. My dad? He got up, called an ambulance for himself, got all my mom's medications for the night and morning out and organized with a note so I'd know what to give her and when, and printed off a list of people to call regarding his pension, funeral arrangements and so on in case he died. He jokes that he wants to live to be 117 so he can see Canada's 200th birthday, and sometimes I feel like he just might.

Wow, that's kind of insane.

Edit: Not bad insane, just like crazy unbelievable.

Oh no! That's awful, so sorry to hear that. My mother died last year as well, after she was diagnosed with cancer the year before. It sucks, it's hard and can't be compared to anything else in life. I wish you a lot of strength for the coming period! It seems like you have a strong father to find support in at the very least.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds even harder than losing a grandparent.
