Yes. that's child endangerment No. the 12 y/o's were old enough to be left home alone View Results 30 y/o Heifer, Erin Lee Macke left her 4 kids HOME ALONE so she could go on an 11 day trip to Germany!! Iowa conducted a welfare check on the house after receiving a tip that her kids, 12 y/o twins (a boy and a girl) and a 7 y/o girl and 6 y/o girl were left alone...they found out that not only were they alone but that they had been left alone with a GUN OUT IN THE OPEN!! According to the complaint, she left an unloaded Glock 8MM handgun on the top of her dresser next to 2 magazines, one fully loaded and one partially loaded. The kids said their mom left for Germany the day before and wasn't coming home until Oct.1 When they called her from abraod, she said that all of her babysitters fell through so she decided to leave them home alone Police said she made no arrangements to provide adult supervision or care for the children while away and ordered her to return home immediately.. She only lasted 4 days before returning and was promptly arrested with 4 counts of child endangerment and 1 count of making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21 In Iowa if a kid is not injured or killed to child endangerment, it's aggravated misdemeanor with a sentence up to 2 YEARS in jail or one year in jail and a fine of 625 to 6250. The gun charge is the serious misdemeanor with up to a year in jail and a fine of 315 to 1875 Tyler Tompkins of the Johnston Police said he's never heard anything like this before as he's heard of parents going out for a night and asking the neighbors next door to watch their kids but never one where a parent leaves the country. It's not clear why she left to Germany but it is a popular time to visit Europe at the end of September because of Oktoberfest. Pictures of Erin's time in Germany were posted on instagram where her kids could CONTACT her from.. The Iowa Dept of Human Services took custody of her children and have been placed in extended family members homes..
