Do you agree with the verdict?

A US District Judge has ruled that Black Lives Matter as an entity CANNOT be sued because it is ruled as a Social Justice Movement!!

This comes after a Baton Rouge Police Officer tried to sue Black Lives Matter after he was injured after getting struck in the face with a rock which he blamed the group for inciting violence and for his injuries

Prominent Black Lives Matter activist, DeRay McKesson was the leading figure of the movement who was being named in the suit and US District Judge Brian Jackson dismissed those charges against him who was just expressing his free speech at the July 2016 rally and played no involvement to the cops injury

He said "Although many entities have utilized the phrase black lives matter in their titles or business designations, Black Lives Matter itself is not an entity of any sort"

The Officer claimed he and his fellow officers were pelted with bottles and he was hit in the face with a rock and fell to the floor where he was left with an injured jaw and brain as well as a lost tooth. Because DeRay was the prominent organizer of the protest, he sued him. Because Black Lives Matter is a social movement, like the Tea Party, it cannot be sued..

Therefore, the John Doe Officer who was injured had his lawsuit tossed

Do you think this verdict was fair? let's see what people think

Given that it's not a real organization, how could you sue it? Granted, I'm not sure why he couldn't just sue the organizer who brought together these violent punks.

I get the premise behind not being able to sue a group-think, but people do THAT all the time... so I don't know what is unique in this case.

Usually there's some sort of organizational structure and leadership, though.

The actual at-fault parties named in the officer's suit were DeRay McKesson and #BlackLivesMatter.

Yeah, dude was trying to sue a hashtag.

They don't have protection. They're an unorganized unofficial group with no list of members so suing them doesn't address bring any specific person(s) to court therefore it is useless.

It needs to be organized, BLM isn't very organized and unlike Antifa which is officially a terrorist group, they wisened up and stopped all that rioting.

It sounds to me like they are saying that black lives matter is an idea or mantra rather than a specific organization with specific members to sue. And that this cop should have nammed the specific organization that was organizing and supporting black lives matter rallies that day.

Kind of like you can't sue "save the whales" or "recycle to save the planet" but you could sue the organizers or entity of a rally that gathered people under those ideas.

All the cop has to do is amend or re file his complaint with the proper parties in it.
