I think the idea it's just another part of the unconscious power/connection they had, like they had to reach into the irrational/instinctual to be able to access to the power. I was uncomfortable reading it but would only have found it offensive if it was meant to titilate which it clearly wasn't

Esplain me

I'd say it makes very little sense

As a metaphor, it's not really needed... And the book just starts getting CREEPY talking about all this 11 year old kids sex stuff well before the final fight. In the house in neobolt Street her blouse bursts and Bill sees one of her breasts and the language is totally creepy about her budding bosoms. Also a scene in a junkyard where one. Of the bad kids is jerking off another after they are all naked lighting farts and then offers the other kid a blowjob which he declines all while the young girl is watching and commenting on dongs and balls and how she is thinking about main good characters dong and balls when she sees em.

I UNDERSTAND that he wants to try to be true to life to the developing sexual feelings of young kids and the progression into adulthood, but HOLY SHIT this is a book for adults and it gives nothing but creepy feelings. The orgy is horrible descriptive and it's fucking WEIRD and unnecessary

It's probably one of Stephen King's most read books. I think it might even be his best-selling book of all time. I know you think you're super clever for bringing this to everyone's attention at parties but it's just not that obscure of information about the book. It's basically the first thing everyone brings up when comparing the book and the movies.

I kind of think the entire racist subplot with the Bowers doesn't get enough attention for how weird it is. Like it is written about at length. It is a major thread of the book, and it basically amounts to "Henry Bowers is bad"... honestly if you look at the miniseries, for all its flaws in melodrama they did a pretty good job cutting out all the fat in the book. Barely any of that Henry Bowers subplot remains in the miniseries.

Where's the party? most people that have seen IT have also not read the book. Stephen King has a lot of novels, and plenty of film adaptations of his works.

The issue is not how popular IT was as a novel... most people don't read often, if at all. A new film adaptation came out, more people will read IT for the first time, and this discussion is going to happen. That's life.

To even bring up that this happened the person you are talking to would have to have either a basic familiarity of Stephen King or It, and if they have that this child gang is at this point common knowledge. If you're bringing this up to someone that doesn't know Stephen King or It it becomes even dumber." Hey there was a dude you've never heard of that wrote a book you've never heard of that had kids fucking in it." OK then, creepy adults exist. That's shocking?

Stephen King is a household name even if you don't read his books or read in general. I'd heard a lot of him (popular horror novelist with a bunch of movies). I even watched a few movies based on his books before actually picking up his works to read when I was in high school. Then I read IT and wondered what the fuck this popular author was doing having 12 year old sewer sex pacts and what the heck kind of stuff are people usually reading for fun

Like I'd heard a lot about him being a horror author but not anything like that. So it was a surprise for me at that point. At no point before then did anyone mention that Stephen King writes children's sex scenes

Whereas with George RR Martin I know he's all about that stuff even before reading or watching his works

Not everyone is exposed to media in the same way

I mean, that's exactly my point. And It has been talked about for months, the movie too. If you're talking to an audience that is aware of these two things, then they probably already heard about the child sex stuff. You're not the only one that reads and follows this shit. But I guess if you're so bent on being the person that has to share common knowledge as if you're the only one that knows about it, be my guest. Make the bet that you're talking to one of the two people that doesn't know this by now.

Not everyone who has seen the og IT has read the book. I never read the book or saw the movie until like 3-4 years ago. I have friends and family members who have seen IT. None of them has ever said anything about the book having a gangbang in it. Heck when i found that out everyone i have told never knew that happened. Just because people have seen the movies doesn't mean they have read the book or talked to people that have read the book. Yes it was a best seller and his books are well known, but i have never heard anyone bring it up. I only found out because of topics like this.

I find this claim dubious for quite a few reasons so I decided to look it up. In the process I learned two things:

1) It's surprisingly hard to just look up that information, unlike when trying to get sales results for games or movies.

2) Stephen King is nowhere near as big as I had assumed, since he's not even on Wikipedia's list for selling over 10 million copies. Supposedly between all the Dark Tower novels, only 10m have been sold.

At any rate, when I think of the biggest SK novels, IT wouldn't come near the top. Carrie, Cujo, The Shining, Shawshank Redemption, etc, all seem like much bigger names.
