Not gonna lie, the operatic solo at the end was spot on, and it is super badass when Kim Jong Un shows up at 2:15. If I were dictator, this is totally the kind of thing I would produce.

Culturally, I think it is fascinating. Everyone in the audience is part of the North Korean aristocracy and is a close partisan of Kim Jong Un. You can tell their status by the types of pins they wear. The pins with both Kim Jong Un and Kim Jong Il are the highest tier, and are generally only found in the capital city.

The second video seems a lot less formal. Pretty surreal when the missiles start going off at 3:20.

And further to that point, I think it just goes to show that North Korea would have no problem pushing the button if the US attacked them. The people in that room have all been prepping for war since they were children. War is an integral part of their culture.

On our way back from the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) to Pyongyang we stopped of for a break at the Sohung Rest House. We were only a small group of about nine people and one of our guides had heard that very occasionally the staff who were all women would sing a song if asked. We asked if they would sing a song and they agreed as we were a very small group and there was nobody else around.

One of the women reached into her bag for an accordion and the other four stood in front of us and they all performed this beautiful new North Korean song called We Will Go To Mount Paektu which was only released last year. Within about a minute or two of them finishing the song a large bus full of Chinese visitors arrived and the women went back about their work as if nothing had happened

I know most people will scoff, but I genuinely want to visit North Korea. I was extremely upset by Donald Trump's decision to ban Americans from visiting the country. If I want to visit a locale, I should have the right to assume any risks associated. It should be a personal decision. The government should not be telling me how to plan my vacation. Once again, the republicans prove they arent really the party of small government.

I have done extensive research on the country, and while the state sanctioned tour groups really only expose you to Pyongyang's wealthy elite, I think it would be fascinating. The western media makes N. Korea look far more impoverished and dangerous than it actually is (it is in the US government's interest to do do). In reality, it is an extremely safe place to visit as long as you watch what you say, and there is virtually no crime (as a result of the military being the police force). All Americans detained in N. Korea did something that was against the rules. Further, hundreds of Americans visited every year, and only a handful have ever been detained.

TC got suspended for something huh.

Anyways, I actually agree, I've always been interested in visiting Pyongyang just for the unique experience. There aren't many places in the world like that at all. Grand statues, bridges, monuments would make for great photography.

It's really such a shame that the country has a bad regime. It's beautiful both physically (mountains, cherry blossoms, etc.) and culturally (North Korea has more traditional Korean monuments than the South, probably because it's larger in area?)

Also the most likely reason that the USA has completely banned tourism to there is because it's possible that if a tourist goes there and decides to purposely do something against the law there, the DPRK will use it as a reasoning for war :/
