Board 8 > Do you think most of the people on this site act a lot differently in real life?

Then how they act on this site i mean. Do you think they might be nicer in real life or maybe exactly the same.

i've met muffin in person. found him to be less argumentative and confrontational IRL, but not radically different than the way he is here.

some of the more confrontational ones definitely. like not too long ago Corrik made a topic where he revealed that someone came and served him pink chicken and not only did he not send the food back, he actually ate some of it and got sick as a result. then he tried like arguing with people in the topic but man it's just impossible to take him seriously anymore knowing he's actually so timid. his online persona seems to be his fulfillment of his wish that he had an actual spine in real life.

I basically act the same in real life as I do on the board, but people respond to me differently so the outcome is very different. people in real life seem to take it better when I criticize them or point out that they are wrong about something. at the very least, you could say board 8 users are more comfortable throwing a public tantrum rather than just admit they are wrong. though I wonder how many of them would just be silent and not say anything in real life.

It's more that it's hard to provide a tone through text and write very well, feel like most dumb internet arguments come more through a misunderstanding of a word or phrase. It's probably easier to get your point across IRL

this is definitely the case as well to some extent, yeah. I certainly take a bit of responsibility on my end. in real life I've been told my voice is pretty soft and I think people feel more relaxed and less threatened when I talk to them in real life. I've also had some tell me that they are less stressed out when I'm around because I'm so calm all the time. (EDIT: What I mean by this is that I know people aren't going to take things as well, and I still say the same things online as I do in real life. Basically I just don't care whether it pisses people off or not, but in real life it doesn't and on the internet it tends to. So basically it's my own fault for continuing to say the same type of stuff in an environment where I know it will cause people to get upset.)

for some reason there are certain board 8 users who picture me as being like this angry person when it's not really the case. but they use their past perception of me as being ""angry"" to reinforce their belief that I'm angry in a later scenario, and then use THAT mistaken belief as further proof in future instances. it's a problem that essentially builds on itself with each encounter and there's no actual way to refute it because they can't really see me or hear the tone of my voice, and there's nothing stopping them from imagining whatever they want.

the "you're so angry" thing is rather stupid, people often assume you're red in the face when you harshly attack or insult someone online but that doesn't have to be the case at all. not saying i'm never angry, but i'm pretty calm 99% of the time.

All the ones I met were basically the same. However if you just look at posts superficially, I guess they might seem different IRL than here. But if you look at how they actually behave, it's the same.

I think the only person I am curious about being significantly different IRL is timjab, and maybe vlado.
