Are you a "traitor" to your country if you refuse to stand for the national anthem?

2 High School Football Players in Texas have been kicked off the team after they PROTESTED their national anthem.

Cedric Ingram-Lewis and his cousin, Larry McCullough used to play for Two Victory and Praise Christian Academy in Crosby and were told to immediately hand in their jerseys after they protested ahead of the game on Friday.

Cedric raised his fist during the anthem while Larry took a knee

Their coach, Ronnie Mitchem, a former marine kicked them off the team and said the protests were OFFENSIVE to veterans.

Cedric said "He told us that disrespect will not be tolerated. He told us to take off our uniform and leave it there"

Ronnie said he had no choice but to kick them off because he warned players ahead of the time not to kneel because it's a direspect to the veterans and America. Although he supports protest, he does not support it during the national anthem and said they could kneel after a touchdown or in the end zone.

He said "I'm a former Marine. That just doesn't fly and they knew that. I don't have any problem with those young men. We've had a good relationship. They chose to do that and they had to pay for the consequences. I fought for their right to protest but i did not fight for their right to disrespect the country i fought for. If you call yourself an American, you will stand up and be proud of our national anthem"

This comes as Trump and the NFL are at odds and called players who took a knee "sons of b******".

A recent poll said that 59% of Whites, 12% of Blacks and 34% of Hispanics disapprove of people taking a knee to the national anthem causing a big divide in demographics on this issue..

Are you a "traitor" to your country if you take a knee to the national anthem? let's see what people think

So he fought for their right to protest, but not if it's for a point of view he disagrees with. What an absolute asshole.

Under these circumstances, I'd say it's just petty, but understand others who see it as treasonous behaviour or an acceptable form of protest. I'm totally fine with NFL teams firing people over it, but public schools are sort of bound to impartiality because of the first amendment.

Kneeling is one of the most powerful forms of showing respect, so how is it considered disrespectful?

That, sure. But not for the reasons the coach said.

If the coach thinks that's what the flag represents, then to him, their actions did. To you and others, it doesn't necessarily represent that. What the flag represents isn't the same for everyone.
