I've been playing a lot recently. Makes me want to replay Persona 3 a lot too. I finished the Strength confidant (the twins) as fast as I could to be able to fuse whatever level of Persona I wanted, then discovered there's a fee for fusing Personas above your level, lol. But it didn't end up mattering because I just did a grind up to level 99 anyway (Reaper flu trick).

I also didn't realize that the Sun confidant was so time limited until it was too late and I was on rank 9 on the last day. Oh well, I'm sure I'll play it again. I don't know if I'll be able to get the rest of the confidants to rank 10 anyway. I'm just about to beat Sae Nijima's palace now

Good game. I need to do a second run at some point.

About last minute ranks, I needed to get ryuji to 7 to unlock the final hang out spot (for the trophy. 23 spots total iirc) and I got him to 6 and then he got locked out lol

I got him to max really close to the beginning of the game since he was one of the first ones available. I didn't know the different ways to rank up all the stats yet so I was locked out of a bunch of Confidants for a while. I like the confidant stories in this one. My favorite so far is probably Star or Death

Also, it made me feel really stupid to realize today that I could run in dungeons with R2. I'm sure that was in the tutorial but I've been spending the whole game wishing I could move faster lol

I found Ryuji slightly annoying and wanted to max my stats so i ignored him forever. He was on 3 for like 8 months.

But yeah, I liked a lot of the confident stories and how you help them.

I don't really like Ryuji either to be honest. I thought he was well acted but his obsession with being famous made him not seem like one of the good guys. Kind of wish there was a male PC that I liked. Morgana is cool but I mean a human one lol. Yusuke and Junpei in P4 and P3 were kind of similar to Ryuji but not as bad. I particularly liked Junpei, but also Shinji from P3 was good.

Wow, replaying this part at the end of Sae's palace really works for me because I stopped playing for a while after the very beginning so I didn't even realize I was in the same place as the intro until it started happening again. That was effective

Ooh, look out for spoilers. I really love the persona games. It's important to know what to expect from the start though. They're story heavy. It's really only like half a turn based RPG (although you can technically stay in the dungeons as long as you want). It's more about the atmosphere, characters, and story, though the battle mechanics are fun.

also note that the "battle mechanics are fun" part only realy applies to P5 as the rest have more than their fair share of gameplay issues when it comes to the actual dungeons crawling and fighting which is a shame considering thats usually what SMT as a whole excels at

Yeah, I played Nocturne and it was a more traditional RPG. I tell people it's like a grown up pokemon game. Still kind of like the Persona series better though. I still only played Persona 3 Portable instead of the PS2 version -- I heard you couldn't direct control the other party members. That would kind of drive me crazy

Yeah, PS2 version didn't let you control them, but it wasn't that bad. A couple characters would throw out stupid status moves sometimes (Mitsuru and marin karin....why), but more often than not they'd do what the average player would, which really cut down on the tedium of dungeon crawling.

Nocturne while good, I feel is a tad dull from a gameplay standpoint in comparison with the newer titles since like SMT 4, Strange Journey, Devil Survivor.... but nocturnes aesthetics is definitely something remember and its still no slouch in the gameplay

Its been exaggerated over time but it really was a pain in the ass with the healers specifically, whether to heal one person, or the whole team and a little or a lotta should really not be up to the whims of fate
also marin karin is useless please stop

I guess that makes sense but I just find it fun to control them. Maybe it's more of a habit thing. I'm used to customizing everyone in RPGs

They were going for a "you are the leader of the team but everyone is their own unique individual" kinda thing but the problem is sometimes they were a little too "unique" in ways I dont think they intended

Oh also slightly unrelated but underappreciated thing, thank god P5 left the old school style of randomly fusing skills onto your demon, that was just a plain terrible mechanic holy shitttt.
I actually hate the velvet room theme for this very reason, who knows how long I've heard it drone on while trying to fuse a single demon with what I want ugggghhhhh

At first I didn't know what you meant but then I realized I was thinking of strengthening personas in P5 where it's random, you choose the rest of the skills in fusion. Yeah definitely being able to choose them is less frustrating

Aww. I love the velvet room theme. I could listen to it for hours and not be sick of it.
I do understand however.

I'm still partway through SMT4 for 3DS. I've left it for like a year. I can't get into it as much for some reason. It doesn't feel as 'alive' I guess, and I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to go ('find the black samurai', then went around clearing dungeons for a while and nothing happened story wise)

thats a shame, but it is a very different game than persona which is mainly about relationships wheras mainline SMT is usually a depressing power trip with only a couple characters made to be sided with or against, I would recommended Devil Survivor 2, a little more social but still maintaining the classic "worlds gone to shit and Im gonna say how we fix it" style of SMT and my favorite gameplay of the series

I like it, but if I had a criticism I would say that maybe he looks a little 'flat', like they were trying to recreate the drawing and did it a little too closely or something

*spoilers again*

Just beat Yaldabaoth

Wanted Morgana to get to become human ; _ ; But I guess ascending into a being of pure hope is pretty cool too.

Yeah I really liked it. Made me want to replay the other persona games too.

It's interesting how common a trope 'all of humanity wishing for their own destruction' is in Japanese games. Also the 'you can finally beat the bad guy thanks to everyone believing in you' thing. All media has its share of cliches though

I wonder why they re-used the story again of the Protagonist coming from out of town, then leaving at the end. Maybe to enhance the idea that this was the 'one magical year they'll never forget' or something like that. Guess it gives a natural conclusion to the game too to make the protagonist say goodbye to everyone
