-Better sound quality
-Better controls
-No bullshit where you gotta return to some out of the way room just to switch characters for certain stars
-Better textures
-You can have fun messing with Mario's face at the start

Literally the only thing DS has over Mario 64 is 30 extra stars. Literally.

Yeah, agreed. The new characters added were nice, but it was ultimately ruined by the controls and Wario's HORRENDOUS swimming.

I enjoyed the extra levels, as light as they ended up being. Also spent way too much time on that stupid "sort the boboms" minigame.

But yeah, 64 was better. But at the same time, the point of the DS version was mostly to show off what the DS was capable of at the time. It was kind of wild to be upgrading from the Gameboy Advance to the DS for the first time.

but the minigamez

They're really shallow imo >_> I got all of them and had no desire to play any of them more than once.

I enjoyed it...

was also the first time I beat any version of Mario 64, lol. I never owned it, and could never borrow long enough to complete it.

If you didn't have to hold down a button to run, it could have been better. Well, if the controls were better in general.

It's far better than the original.
Better game play, tighter controls, more content.
