that You'll have to owe them something later as payment....it's like dealing with the mafia they act all nice and friendly at first but eventually you get to that point where you are dealing with people that expect you to do something for them in return

i feel like with family this gets brushed off as them doing something out of the kindness of their hearts but sooner or later they'll stop giving you free rides and doing cool crap for you just because "family" when it becomes apparent you aren't footing the bill

am i crazy or is this really how it is?

nobody does anything just because they wanted to be nice....they expect something in return and eventually You'll either give it to them or they'll stop doing nice things for you

So basically you want to be given things but never want to give anything back in return?

TC never said "want to be given things". It could very well be that if I do something, I don't expect anything in return, but when someone else does it for you, you gotta be wary if they'll be expecting something.

no I'm just leery of people who do nice things for me and then act like i don't have to do anything in return when that's a lie

if i don't do anything in return I'll be the dick of the situation and I'll likely have people angry at me because i didn't have the payment for the stuff they did for me that i didn't ask them to do

and i am because ever since my dad died i got various people(family included)doing nice things for me and spending oodles of cash on me without asking for anything in return

i told them they didn't have to do that but they did it anyways and some of them don't have that much money so it's almost like they are guilt tripping me to pay them back because otherwise I'm taking food from their families

So yeah kinda shows that his family was selfish, because if someone does a nice thing for you and they expect you to do the same for you someday then I wouldn't say it was a nice thing. Its just that most people see it as a basic courtesy to do something nice back.

What are these things they did for you that you didn't ask them to do?

one example right after my dad's funeral the guy driving me went straight to bestbuy because he felt like he had to buy me a video game and i didn't say caca to him about anything suggesting that

he just felt like doing something nice for me and i felt like it was strangely bizarre that he would quickly drive into bestbuy right after a funeral and shower me with lavish stuff despite me saying he didn't have to do it

trips to the grocery store to the movies to gamestop anytime i start talking about anything related to what I'm into they instantly think that it's something i wanna buy now and don't take no for an answer when i try to tell them it's not like that

hell i told some guys about doom coming out for the switch cause that seemed like it'd be right up their alley and instantly they promised to get me it when it comes out but i showed no desire for it i just said hey doom's coming out for the switch did ya know that? and left it at that

like right now the cousins around me are saying that's not the case but considering these cousins have bad money issues of their own and are quick to spend oodles of money on me at the drop of a hat without me saying anything except something that they imagined meant i wanted them for something(like if i mentioned anything coming out it would register to them that it must be something i wanna buy)

sooner or later they'll come to collect and ask where's the money for all the cool stuff they gave me out of the "kindness of their hearts"

because they keep having to tell me they aren't rich but they'll do whatever they can for me and yet at the same time they carelessly spend money on me just because i uttered a phrase they think means buy this now

no they haven't but poor people can't just buy cool stuff for family members all the time eventually they'll have to demand some payment in return for all of that stuff

and at that point i will regret not just telling them "no thank you I'm good without any of these hand outs"

i don't wanna be the reason they cannot afford something important all because they felt like they had to get me anything and everything i could ever thnk of

Maybe they are doing it because they want so much for you to feel even a little bit better and they don't know the right words to say or how to help you. Maybe they think getting you a game or something similar will help take the pain away a little for you. Sometimes people don't know the right thing to do but at least they are trying and it sounds like these gifts are things you would enjoy. Doing something like this also makes them feel good. I'm sure they don't feel you owe them anything in return. They just don't know another way to help you/connect with you, or show you that they care.

I'm so sorry you lost your dad.

Jesus Christ.

Do you not know what a family is?

The only thing they 'expect' is for you to be their family member. Lordy that this has to be explained is fucking with me.
