I do and a very strong prescription at that. What do you think, over half the people on this board wear glasses?

I've been wearing glasses since the 6th grade (24 now). I've been curious about contacts or LASIK though.

i've thought about getting lasik also. Do you have concerns about the safety? Or is it the cost that is a deterrent to you?

Both of my parents have needed glasses most of their lives. My mother insisted Id need them so when I was 17 she took me to the optometrist. I dont know if I flubbed the test or if he had a quota to fill but he said I needed them. So I got a pair of prescription sunglasses.

I tried them on once, immediately took them off, and never wore them again.

Because I had prescription sunglasses, my school had to let me wear them to see, and I would just wear my regular round rimmed sunglasses in school. Pissed kids off something fierce.

About 6 or 7 years ago. Maybe longer I started to go blind. I couldnt read a large print Glasses Required sign from my bench. So I went and had my eyes checked and they were really bad. Turns out I was diabetic. 2 weeks later after taking medication and dropping a couple of things my eyes were back to normal.

A year later I saw an ophthalmologist for a yearly check up, 20/15.

Take that, mom.

So you don't believe that requiring glasses is mostly genetic? My mom thinks it's mostly from reading too much books and watching too much tv.

I think it's from not flexing your eyes. If you're watching TV or reading a book, you don't need to change your focus. People who binge these without looking at anything else are going to leave their eye muscles stuck at one position so it becomes more difficult to change focus or your eyes associate an amount of effort with a set range so a weakened muscle means miscalibrated focus.

Besides, I would feel naked if I took them off.

Nope, 34 and surprisingly still have great vision. Not 20/20 great, but good enough that no one has even thought of giving me any kind of vision correction. Also a real oddity given my profession, the amount of time a day I spend staring at a computer screen, and the fact that both my parents are blind as a bat without their glasses.

Carrots have nothing to do with visual equity.

It was a deliberate hoax by the Royal Air Force during World War 2, to keep Nazi Germany from knowing of radar technology, by claiming that they feed their pilots carrots to improve their vision.

Germany (and the U.K.). And no, rabbits don't eat carrots either. It was due to Bugs Bunny making an homage to Clark Gable eating a carrot in "It Happened That One Night".

And now you know.

Well I know one of the big myths is mice liking cheese, they actually eat mostly fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Rabbits don't eat carrots out in the wild. They prefer the leafy stem at the top. Bananas, as we know them, are human cultivated, to be edible. Apes and monkeys are more likely to eat other, sweeter tasting fruits, rather than wild bananas.

I don't really remember. I wanna say something like 20/40 but I could be wrong. I never paid a lot of attention to it.

I think my prescription was something like -.50 and -1.50?
