You have countries with conscription where literally every male is trained to handle firearms. Switzerland literally lets you keep your service rifle after finishing. Literally literally

You have the third world countries with high firearm homicide rates, and even then they just use it as a means for suicide/murder. None of these countries really give a shit about guns. Any discussion of guns in the US and you have people frothing at the mouth about self defense or b-b-but muh rights

The US also isn't the only country with a constitution that guarantees the right to bear arms, so...

Why is it the only country that worships guns and when did this fetish start?

Guns got them out of the British control.

Perhaps the same could be said about all religions?
Sweden used to be a superpower that were more in wars than outside wars for hundreds of years.
Other nations got so tired of it so enemies became friends just to try to gangbang Sweden, and yet they lost.

I don't especially enjoy guns nor have I ever bought one.

Still got a hard-on for the Constitution though, if I'm being honest. And it seems that the 2A is under fire more often than most amendments, so I talk about it quite a lot.

I think the westward expansion of the country laid a lot of the groundwork for gun culture in the US. A gun was a necessary tool for a lot of people living outside of the major towns in the 19th century. Naturally, a firearms manufacturing industry sprung up to satisfy the needs of pioneers crossing the country and settling the west.

I think the US's tendency to get entangled in wars either internally or abroad helped contribute to a culture which revered guns. The world wars of the 20th century created entire generations of veterans, veterans who would come home from wars with knowledge about guns they otherwise wouldn't have had and continued owning and using guns for self defense or as a hobby. Moreover, as gun ownership became increasingly unnecessary for protecting your isolated prairie home, it became something for the rapidly expanding middle class of the post WWII period to do.
