It really just depends on how you live your life. My cousins can pull all nighters and stay awake even afterwards because they have a very active life style. They are constantly outside walking, skating, etc. They also have a very nutritious diet and they pretty much eat anything.

Unlike me, I'm not very active, I don't eat nutritiously at all, and I can barely pull an all nighter and I must go to bed early so I can get enough sleep.

Man these days I fall asleep before 10pm like clockwork. My new job gets me home between 7-8pm and then I hit the pillows. Now I'm usually up in the mornings by 6:30am.

I had terrible insomnia for years but this works for me. The book that helped me is called The Promise of Sleep.

I agree with the first part but you certainly can catch up on sleep.

For the average person, 1 hr of sleep is needed for every 2hrs awake. Imagine putting a brick in a backpack that you carry for every hour of sleep needed. If you don't empty the pack every once in awhile it will lay you out flat from the weight and fatigue. This is why people end up sleeping 12+ hrs every so often.
