I think they may be a large 6 year old they're whining that the lights are on and the movie isn't going yet...

Either way, a little young for this kind of thing

Going to the theater to see a movie not fit for children just to have a little brat squirming/crying/screaming/babbling near you is the worse.

One of the movie theaters I go to literally had to ban <13 yo kids (even if with parents) in the evening because of that.

When that one (its small) doesn't have the movies I want to see, I just go to a theater a little further out that is considered overpriced. No one brings kids there because of it. Its awesome.

I haven't seen this movie but I feel like i've seen worse at least in terms of blood/gore at younger. I still vividly remember seeing alex murphy (later in the movie robocop) getting shot to hell and back, I was like 5 or 6.

also saw the first 2 terminator movies at a really young age.

as said I haven't seen this movie so I don't know how much violence is actually in it, from what I recall of the original it didn't seem like a whole hell of a lot.

oddly goosebumps never really bothered me despite the intro to the tv series giving me the creeps for some reason, but the episodes themselves never where that bad. may have helped I avidly read the books as a kid though, must of had like 50 of them in my personal collection.

Got into the theatre and was waiting for them to let people in for the screening. Waiting next to me was a youngish parent couple with their boy. He was well past the toddler stage but still a youngster. My guess is probably 5 or 6. He wasn't the most articulate and he had an armful of stuffed animals in tow. I wondered what movie they were waiting for. More people were lined up and waiting, and as they opened the gates for different films, everyone from the back trickled forward and to their theatres.

But not the IT crowd. I saw the family staying put. And I thought "shit, this kid is not gonna have a good time."

We're invited in. The family sits across the aisle from me and one row back. They put their young son in the aisle seat in the row in front of them. Him and his trio of teddies. Getting upset the movie wasn't on. Oh, you sweet young thing.

At this point, I step out of the theater room to use the toilet. Immediately as I exit, a stranger comes up and comments "my cousin saw that movie and it scared the SHIT out of him." He matches my direction and my stride and we walk the hall. "He saw the original, that scared him, but not as much as this one"

"Yeah, it looks like a pretty intense one," I say. "There's a little kid in the theater, I think he's not gonna like being so scared."

"SHIT he's gonna be real fuckin' scared. Poor kid. Not for kids!"

"Yeah man!"

We part ways as quickly as we met, his path leading to American Made as I made my way into the bathroom. Business was done and this topic was made. If only the movie time went so well...

Back into the theatre, in the seat, waiting patiently for the show time. This theatre is notorious for starting late and tonight didn't disappoint. The seats had filled up a bit and the boy was moved back next to his mother so some group of adults could sit together. At least he was near a parent for when shit went bad. And yes, it went bad.

Georgie was older than this boy, most definitely. But not by too many years. Maybe the boy saw a little of Georgie in himself. Maybe he looked up to Georgie. It's hard to say.

When Georgie got bit by Pennywise, it started. The very upset sounds from that child. It was soft at that point. Shocked and not deeply wounded, but afraid. What would come? Yet that crying was present in the air, mingling with the laughter that carried through the sewer drainpipes. Initially, I thought it was more child sounds in the movie soundtrack, but it was not. It was that poor boy .

Given how tame that intro part was in the movie, yeah, things got worse. That boy did not like any of the scenes in the bathroom. Especially the one where Bev waiting in the shower knocks her father in the head and leaves. That one had him doing a sad little wail into his mom's shoulder. His hat was pulled over his eyes and he was curled up crying.

Even if it wasn't for the very graphic, shocking violence at parts, this is a terrible idea for young ones for the language. Like yeah it's funny for adults to watch child stars say it, but when your 5 year old starts calling people motherfucker and talking about his dick it won't go so well.

It was an immensely terrible movie for that boy to be brought to. He did not have a good time. As everyone was leaving, I overheard the father say to the mother "I bet he's scared of clowns now." The boy weakly said "nooooo I'm not." with tears on his face. His parents laughed at him.

I just feel bad for that child, really. It didn't ruin my moviegoing experience (that kid kept it quiet I will give him credit there). It was sad to see parents treating a child that way.

Sometimes when a movie is R it is 14A in Canada. I think it's 14A which means anyone under 14 can go in with an adult.

oddly she watches other shit that makes you scratch you head (negligent grandparents on the mothers side of the family) shit like llama's in hats or whatever. I know she loves power rangers and that has plenty of action. she wanted to watch suicide squad but my brother put his foot down on that one lol

I think it was simply a case of the movie wasn't what she wanted it to be.

edit: she does get upset very easily by things not going how she wanted them to.

yeah i'd say its fine to let a kid watch a movie like this if you are pretty damn sure they can handle it. but you do that by build up. like say they started with goosebumps and worked up from there. this story sounds like a case of throwing the kid into the deep end as it where.

Probably in the minority in thinking this but the more "scary" shit a kid watches the less scared they will actually be of said thing meaning not all kids will be the same. The same logic could be applied to most age groups.

Edit: I wouldn't force a kid to watch something they don't want to though.

No it's legal as far as I know. In Canada IT is rated 14A which means anyone under 14 can see it with an adult. There's a lot of 14A stuff that's not really ok to bring kids to but it happens with shitty parents.

My dad let me watch pretty much anything I wanted when I was little, I burned through all of the Friday the 13th and Elm Street movies by the time I was 8. That said I did have lots of nightmares and hot damn the basement was scary lulz, I used to turn off the lights and just book it up the stairs.

I haven't seen IT but on youtube i've seen like a thumbnail of him biting georgies arm and i'm thinking yeah, even without the thumbnail and just knowing what IT is about I wouldn't let a little kid watch that.
