Board 8 > Kirby Planet Robobot playthrough (ongoing spoilers)

It's been long due now but I'm finally starting up Kirby Planet Robobot on both my birthday and after finishing the Fafner mechs series. I can't wait to see what this infamous Hartmann whose theme is everywhere in Siivagunner rips is all about. I heard its one of the best Kirby games but I'm going to try to keep mediocre expectations so I don't get disappointed.
Nice bubbly clouds remix in file select. The opening scene already has some cool stuff like Dedede playing chess and both his castle and the Halberd fighting the big UFO but in true mecha fashion the new enemy destroys them. Looks like it's up to Kirby to settle things. I heard Meta Knight plays a pretty big deal but King Dedede doesn't which is a shame since King Dedede is my favorite character but he played a huge role in Triple Deluxe so I guess fair is fair. Let's see what's going on

Amazing. Just the first world and already we have a boss. Though I had to flee through the pipe (so this is why Mario decides to copy Kirby and Sonic in Odyssey!) before I could defeat him. Was it possible to defeat mecha whisky then? I don't think so. So far just trying out all the old abilities.

You can beat him but you need a high damage ability like Hammer, ESP or Doctor.

If you kill him you get a gold sticker.

Ohhh. No wonder I didn't get a gold sticker. I noticed stage 2 and 3 had one so I thought the first stage was just a tutorial that didn't have one. I guess I'll get it then, thanks for the heads up! I had 300 play coins in stock so I just got as much stickers there as possible lol. Can you only use two stickers though? I'm hoping you can upgrade for more combinations or something later. Speaking of which, this Doctor Mario ability is pretty badass. Can't wait to see how it works with the mecha.

Pretty much every mainline one and canvas curse and mass attack. I think the only one I haven't played myself is amazing mirror but I've seen playthroughs of it. I love this series as you can see lol. And I'm really liking this pattern of every level having a boss. But I doubt it'll keep this up.
"This giant robot's weak spot is unknown" though.

Damn I've gotten so good at the cannon game. I've gotten #1 for every single one except the first gone which I got #2

Yo was that D.VA I just fought?! It's been awhile since a Nintendo first party game had a cute small girl as a villain (though I thought it was going to be Taranza at first lol) Though I've heard she's a tragic villain who probably dies? She was even kind of tough, making me use my potion.
I also just had the most unexpected death. In the EX stage of world 3 there's a puzzle where you have to freeze waters so you can place an electrifying block on it and then use electricity to open a door. Well after I opened the door I dropped back down to the water place and accidentally broke the ice with my spark which had the block fall right on top of mecha Kirby and kill me instantly

Kabulas back! With a cool remixed battle theme to boot! Meta Knight also returns, possessed, the last time being so was epic yarn. But Kirby just leaves him there after defeating him? Come on Kirby!

And Haltmann himself is taking a long time to appear lol

So I beat the final boss. Damn what a ride! That awesome gurren lagann reference at the end was great too! I did think it was a bit short though. I was expecting an on ground fight with star dream somewhere at least like triple deluxe had. But I guess they're saving it for the true arena. I hope haltmann isn't dead though. I thought he was pretty cool. Also, I played the final boss thinking that stage 7 EX was going to be the last one but the sticker board shows there's a stage 8? Holy shit I wonder what's there. I clearly still got a bunch of stuff to do.
Hate how the game punted me back to the title screen though. I had 75 lives lol.

Yeah. Game's not over til you finish Meta Knightmare and the True Arena. It's worth it though.

Yeah, there's actual plot in the 2 post-game modes.

Also I think that the spoiler mode is the best part of the whole game and it's an amazing standalone experience, mainly due to the mechanics. It's also a great speedrun style game if you're into that, because the game tracks your total completion time and even your best level segments, so you can keep replaying it.

Yeah, I spoiled myself a bit and apparently there's a BUNCH of new bosses and backstory which I didn't expect since Dededetour only had a new final boss at the end and was more of an extra rather than an integral part of the plot. This main game ending doesn't even explain much, just the standard oh look, crazy people, oh shit universe-ending threat, kirby destroys it after an intense and epic battle ending. Nothing about daughters dying and fucking Dark Matter returning. Like, everyones calling Haltmann one of the most tragic kirby characters but this ending doesn't explain shit lol. Something I did notice though. Maybe it'll grow on me, but the final boss themes in this game, while pretty intense was nowhere near as good as the final boss themes from Triple Deluxe imo. Triple Deluxe had 3 amazing melodious and beautiful boss themes and Robobot's is more hectic. While it definitely fits the themes of the battles I still prefer melodic music more.

Don't forget to check the pause screen during boss battles, it reveals information about the story and changes in different modes.

I do enjoy kirby games, but this game has a really strong connection in my mind with Nick Robinson, so I don't know if I'll ever be able to actually play and enjoy it :(

lol why? What does that guy have anything to do with planet robobot? Anyway, I was expecting a clone mecha knight 2.0 for meta knight to face or something but wtf is this, STOCK Mecha Knight? So they created a robot that was stronger than the strongest form of regular meta knight and it was just going to be a STOCK MASS PRODUCED version? Holy shit, not even Kirby would've been able to beat that. And kirby can destroy gods. That's got to be one of the most OP things possible.

it was the last video series he was working on before everything came out. I was in between watching his videos when the news started to hit me, and it was absolutely stomach turning. I'm still really torn up about the situation so I can't disassociate the two things yet

My god this fucking true arena is frustrating. Not so much as the bosses are hard, but the lack of healing items. It's much harder than Triple Deluxe's and by extension every other true arena. Maybe it's just that I'm not as experienced. Finally 100%ed it though and got that cute little UFO ability. I'll replay it once, and then on to Clash Deluxe and Blowout Blast.
