It's inherently more difficult to squeeze between two cars in reverse, and not any easier to get out between two care going forward. Is there some advantage I'm not understanding?

Being able to see traffic more easily when you decide to leave.

Probably not worth it, though if there are two parking spots in front of each other, Ill deliberately drive through to the second and get the same benefit for no hassle.

It is easier to get out if it's a crowded parking lot and it's hard to see someone coming sometimes when you're backing out. I don't ever do it because I'm not good at driving in reverse, but it's not that incomprehensible of a thing.

I have a backup camera and due to the guidelines it gives me, it's actually easier to squeeze in when it's a tight space.

Though the real reason why it's better is due to reducing wear on the car. You're going to have to reverse anyway. Might as well do it when your car is warm instead of cold because you reduce the wear on the engine and transmission.

Also in the event of an emergency, you can just drive off without needing to reverse out of your parking spot.

To be honest, I'm not sure if the argument was for wear or fuel economy. It is something I've read before but never practiced until I got a car with a backup camera.

I honestly enjoy backing in with the reverse camera.

After a sporting event it is a hell of a lot easier to just drive forward into the line of cars when you are all trying to get out of the parking garage at the same time.

When it's busy it's 100x less stressful to leave.

Or when at home and you back into your driveway, it allows for a quicker easier exit in case of an emergency or necessity.

I always back in, no rear camera. It's easier to see what's happening - having worked in auto insurance before, I know there is a ridiculous number of parking lot crunches that happen when two people back out and into each other.

Also this. My friends ask me to back their cars out of parking spots and I'm convinced this is the reason.

Tangentially related issue: I always park on a slight angle like I'm in a showroom, and it amuses Tom.

Definitely easier to get out if it's crowded/tight enough. And by tight not just the cars next to you but the width of the entire space you can drive in, like in garages it's way smaller than some expansive lot.

In Florida never really needed to though.

Sometimes I do it because it makes leaving easier in the morning. Saves me 30 seconds.

My tags were expired for 2 weeks while i was getting repairs to pass my smog check. When i back into a spot then cops can't see the expired tags.

We have to reverse park at work, think their reasoning is safety of pedestrians - less likely to hit someone driving out forward than backwards. I guess there is some sense in that.

As for shops etc, I just drive in/reverse out. I just find it easier generally.
