In a new promotional tweet for its upcoming video game, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, developer Bethesda shared a video clip of Nazi soldiers marching, with the caption Make America Nazi-Free Again. #NoMoreNazis #Wolf2.

The video itself is just a few seconds long, depicting orderly lines of Nazi soldiers (the games main foe) with the text Not my America superimposed on top of it.

Didn't Bethesda just say the other day they weren't trying to make a political statement with this game?

I don't really object to it, but taking the Trump tagline from his campaign and swapping out Nazi-free in places of great does suggest a certain political messaging. I can see how people on the Right who aren't Nazis feel like they are being called Nazis on the sly with a statement like that.

In this end though, I suspect this is just trying to take contemporary political jargon and use it for marketing a game. Like how Deus Ex: Mankind Divided had that Augs Lives Matter bit and people flipped their shit over that.

We are currently in a political climate in which conservatives, republicans, Trump supporters, and right-leaning people in general are accused of being fascists and Nazis with some regularity. Whether they actually are or not.

I absolutely see how some may take that as an underhanded jab at them. I mean, they're called Nazis by college professors and students, left leaning activists, tv show creators and probably celebrities too, etc. Now, they probably feel like a game development studio is getting in on it too.
