What a pleasant surprise, to be awoken by biting bed bugs at 5 am on my day off. Certainly, this was fated to be, to spend a day I reserved for relaxation fighting a duel to the death with a thousand vile cretins infested within my headboard!

The light of day granted me extra visuals of the vermin crawling over my wall, within my headboard, and upon my sheets. I phoned my mother for instructional advice, because mother always does know best, and soon I was flogging myself hauling an upholstered piece of wood down to the curb. Returning through the residence, I stomped upon any stragglers that did indeed shed from their vessel, hoping that they would not infest the house. It was not like there was an alternative option. Surely, I would not make such carelessness when transporting the remainder to be cleaned.

Taking mother's advice and utilizing trash bags, I have transported the remainder to the laundry, in which it will be cleaned with intense heat to end the lives of as much of the filthy critters as it can. At present, the pillows are in the dryer and the mattress pad is awash, but many more loads are to come. I am hopeful that these monstrosities can be eliminated without much expenditure, but alas, I feel that ought not to be the case. Le sigh.

Dare I ask what else I must do to combat these terrifying creatures? I do not wish for another night of disturbed sleep. Many thanks!

Had them a few months ago.

1. Call an exterminator as soon as possible

2. Wash all of your clothes

3. Don't change where you're sleeping or they'll just infest that room instead

4. Scour the room for blood/feces stains to get a good idea of where they're coming from

5. Pray you haven't had them that long

The exterminators wanted a "sample," if you will, of the pest, so I submitted a few of the cretins to them. They will get back to me on Monday regarding if they are actually bed bugs or not. If they are not, it likely isn't a long-term problem. If they are, I will be asking for a discount for the wasted time.

I shall undergo a full laundering this weekend in which I purge every piece of clothing I own of the sins contained within. It is good advice to not change where I am sleeping - I would not have heeded that, so thank you, Tangy.

I saw a stain earlier underneath where my pillows are, which I will keep there for the exterminator.

Hopefully, this will resolve for the best promptly. I shall keep you posted as my struggle continues!

I managed to sleep normally overnight and awoke to find a trivial amount of insects crawling around, which were quickly dealt with using my HAND CANNON. They are still alive crawling around in the fuselage, however I must find a way to dispose of the innards safely. The ones sucked into the heavier artillery yesterday sit inside the vacuum bag within a bigger bag within an even bigger bag at the bottom of the outdoor waste receptacle. They are not escaping.

I am currently spatially organizing my belongings. Some area already embagged outside my room, sealed tight to protect what is within from devastation or, if already infected, prevent its spread. I am most likely going to take a suitcase to pack away my clothing for the next few days, so I do not recontaminate them. I will also be burning or donating some of my excess. I have indeed intended to purge holey socks, pants that no longer fit now that I am skinny, and the most tattered of items from my "man drawer." I have not chosen to take the time to do so, preferring to clean other things, write, or de-stress. Now, I must.

I had them at an apartment building last year that were fucking awful. The spray treatments I received are successful keeping the bugs at bay, but not at eliminating them completely. I eventually broke the lease and moved into the house my brother just bought.

The only things I brought into the house were things I could wash or things I could verify were clear with nothing the bugs could crawl into.

A bunch of other stuff was put into the garage, including some tall bookcases, my DX Racer chair, a 50 inch tv, a large collection of books and comics, and some other stuff. It was all enclosed within a pentagram of diatomaceous earth.

I thought I was getting bit for the last few months, but my bites aren't reacting the way the bed bug bites used to and becoming inflamed or itchy. We had a pest control people come through with the dogs that sniff for bed bugs and they found nothing. So I think I'm in the clear in the house. I think I'm getting bit by spiders, not bed bugs.

So now we are left with the stuff in the garage. I'm not sure what the best way to deal with that stuff is. The pest control people say its not easy to heat treat a garage. My plan is to freeze them out over the winter, but those people say the cold isn't very effective at killing them. They just go dormant. I'm hopeful Edmonton cold will do the trick though...

My anti bed bug tips though:

Wash all clothing and bedding you own in high heat. Store ALL clothes in tied off plastic bags (I used clear ones to tell whats in what bag). Get clothes every morning from these bags. I would put dirty clothes in a different bag, and when I cleaned those clothes I would tie off that bag and dispose of it, and put the clean clothes in a fresh bag.

Get a decent vacuum cleaner that puts everything it sucks up into a bag that you can seal - you don't want a vacuum that you just dump out since any bed bugs you suck up could just crawl out. Regularly vacuum your bed, the box spring, and the carpet in any place you suspect you have bed bugs. Immediately dispose of the sealed bag of crap you just sucked up. You can suck up bed bugs and eggs this way.

Get those interceptor cups for your bed posts - they are little traps that the bugs will climb up to get to your bed and then get stuck in. I caught a few like this.

I sprayed the bed frames down with poison to hopefully kill any bed bugs that touched them. Not sure if this was effective.

D Earth is nice since it really does kill them and can keep them from passing through somewhere, but bed bugs are pretty smart about just.... not walking into it and dying so it's not super effective.

I thought about buying one of those closet things you can buy that you can put stuff into and it heat treats it for you. It was like $500-800 dollars or something if I recall correctly. I wasn't desperate enough for that but it seems cool. It'd be nice to heat treat my book collection with this if I had it.

in 9 months of living with bed bugs I never once actually saw one moving around

Laundry operation is still progressing. Clean clothes are sorted in bags. I've planned outfits for the week and put them in individual bags. I will bag dirty clothes as well.

I'm noticing bugs attached themselves to things like my phone and 3DS. I am hoping I did not spread them to other places. I try to completely wipe any bugs off in the morning. Still, I am paranoid that I left one at my sister's or the grocery store or somewhere else I've been...

Nah fleas are way easier to get rid of than bed bugs. Just do laundry often, set off a flea bomb and then vacuum every day. Also make sure any pets you have get a flea treatment, which not only will stop them from getting bit but help kill the fleas too.

Unless you have a really bad infestation that should be the extent of what you need to do. If that doesn't take care of it then call a professional.

Bed bugs are an absolute pain in the ass though. It WILL take weeks to get rid of them, even with professional treatment. The only way to get around that really is heat treating the whole house which can be problematic depending on your living arrangements.

Exterminator is coming literally FIRST THING tomorrow. Giving me an estimate, sizing up the situation, and preparing for treatment. He'll be back in the coming few days to start taking care of the things.

My clothes are all washed and dried. Bags are in the basement, where there -hopefully- were not any stragglers that survived during the whole transportation thing. There were some carcasses outside the dryer. So many of them definitely did not survive. I vacuumed up the excess and threw the bag in the trash with the bags I used to transport the dirty clothes and the lint I took out of the dryer. That is now in the outside garbage can.

I am at work right now (given this account) and am performing decently. My sanity is restabilizing. I should be able to put my mind to other stuff again and, hopefully, relax.

Exterminator says they've been here a while. My bed might also be a loss. He can't come nuke the place until Monday, and the price is absolutely ridiculous. Way more than what I have in the bank. Thankfully, I have parental support, but there's no guarantee against reinfestation - which means the issue can recur if we're not careful. I'm uncertain if I need to remove the bags from my stuff...

We will have to figure out how to prevent a second instance of this absurd cost. I'm not sure what to do to save my bed. It's okay, though - was planning on replacing it anyway. I haven't been able to save up for it and never will now...

I'll make a GoFundMe later.

Yes. Have the number. Parents say I should go with the one that my condo association recommended, though, and since the parents are helping me pay... I should listen to them. I might be able to get a little funding from the condo association, also, but... I doubt it.

There's a lot of rules to this heat treatment stuff. I won't be able to take anything with me to work that day except for my wallet and phone - if they don't allow me to take those, then I'm not going to be able to go to work (Can't eat or ride bus without wallet. Can't keep sane for the day without my phone in these circumstances.). Have to figure out a way to clean. Any ideas on how to disinfect my wallet, my credit card, my phone, my keys?

Oh yeah, I let building management at my work know I might have brought those bugs into work. They'll bring in a bug-sniffing dog and treat affected areas with spray that apparently kills them.

I don't know how much I trust that since they hide in crevices, but I'm glad I let them know even if the "Andy has bedbugs" thing is going around. I don't want anyone else to take those things home, just like whoever I got these from didn't want me to take them home.

The bug-sniffing dog did not find any bedbugs at work! WHEW! I can breathe a little easier now. Building management is very thankful that I not only let them know, but that I took preventative measures. As long as I didn't bring any today or Monday (nearly impossible given my avoidance tactics), work should be good.

My car is the biggest concern now. Anything that got in before that heat wave in September probably died from my car being an oven (since it sits out in the sun). It's just anything since then that would be a problem...

Place is still an oven. Today was also quite strange, not having my phone with me. I was starting to suffer from withdrawal and I don't use my phone as much as most people my age tend to.

Cleanup is progressing. A few bugs still straggling around, but the exterminator said they'd die within a day or two and should be too wounded to breed. Hopefully I don't have to go through this again!
