i pay $700 for rent, living downtown of a major california city and it's 3 blocks from all my favorite restaurants and bars. The average rent for my area is $1200. But my landlady is super nice and said she'd never raise the rent on me. I've been here 6 years. My parents are trying to pressure me into buying a house and the mortgage would be about $1500 a month. I wouldn't be close to the location I am now.
