Today has been the absolute worst day for me when it comes to the ugly duckling syndrome.

As a kid I was pretty awkward, no sense of style, overweight, unshaven patchy beard, thick Harry Potter glasses, high forehead and very high hairline.... and I was a nerd at that who was painful insecure and had ADD and hyperactive.

I was always told I was ugly by peers and no girls showed any interest in me except like one in high school.

Now Im 24, well dressed, well groomed and bald so my hairline is barely noticeable. I also am longer obviously overweight like when I was a 140 pound 55 teen. Today I got a shape up and put on some nice clothes and I go into subway, she tells me I look nice starts chatting blabla.. go sign up for a new gym, the attendant is flirty so I just flirt back, she asks if I have kids blabla...

The funny thing is other times people are less overt I dont let my personality shine through because I always have this feeling like nah no way shes interested

If people give me an interesting glance Im more inclined to think theres something on my face than think shes checking me out.

Ultimately its not the biggest deal but it probably is a reason I only seem to hit it off with extroverted people and not introverts.

Whats confusing.

I was like 55 140 at 13.

I stayed roughly the same weight for 5 years maybe + 10 pounds and grew 4 inches in height

Not sure if it's the same kind of thing, but my confidence and self esteem was destroyed as a kid by my parents, and classmates. There was nobody who wanted anything to do with me, and I was constantly bullied and made fun of. Even though only my dad still treats me that way, it still always feels like no one likes me, and that I don't deserve to be liked or find love. I know in my mind that it's wrong, but it feels that way regardless and I struggle with hating myself a lot because of it.

If the chick is outgoing and knows how to talk I can show my personality no problem.

But if shes subtle and shy I get confused and withdrawn

Im still not at a point I have the confidence to carry a conversation with a shy chick

No thats definitely fat for a teenager.

Most kids are around 115 at that age

"ugly duckling syndrome" would work if you're the worse looking of your siblings. Still I'm just nitpicking and I can't say I've had anyone call me ugly. They haven't called me attractive either(save for online) so I guess I'm just average and always have been.
