Smooth talker, that Trump.

How many Gold Star families do you think hell have insulted when all is said and done?

As much as I don't care for Trump, he's not wrong.

War is hell and when you enlist, you should know that anything can happen.

The point of this topic isn't whether what Trump said is factual or not. You can surely see that right? lol

-Trump told the widow that Johnson "knew what he signed up for ... but when it happens, it hurts anyway."
-Critics rebuked Trump for the remarks, but the context around his language was not immediately known.

Let's all get angry.

Trump is a dumbass.

Having said that, there's nothing wrong with what he said whatsoever.

When has that ever stopped his critics?

Trump's comments came just hours after he doubled down on a false claim that President Barack Obama did not call the families of fallen soldiers.

Thats pretty tone deaf, even if it is the truth. But Trump has never been known to be very sympathetic, and hes always been crass and very off-the-cuff when he speaks.

If he really cared about people, particularly soldiers, he wouldnt be actively instigating North Korea. You dont go looking for war. Basically, Kim Jong is like an internet troll, and Trump takes the bait every time. Trump thinks he looks tough making schoolyard insults and threats, but he looks weaker when he lets himself get caught up in all this rhetoric. His ego is too fragile for this job.

Whether or not that is true, that is a horrible thing to say to the person who loves him, grieving over the casket. Shame on him.

I agree with military action against NK if necessary. NK has a history of making idle threats, and you have to wonder if Trumps dick-measuring shit-fits arent feeding into an increase in frequency or boldness. We can maintain a position of strength and opposition to NKs nuclear program without openly instigating war.

Replace what he said with something like "he died with honor serving his country, something your son was prepared for" and it would have been serviceable.

I'm sure this is what he meant, but the Trump personality is a simpleton combined with some apparent personality disorder that doesn't allow him to experience empathy.

Sounds reasonable to me. Maybe not as flowery as someone might like, but it's something I might say. I've said something similar to this with family members who are getting old or have terminal diseases something like, 'It's a tough thing knowing something is going to happen but it still hurts when it does'.

Sounds fine. But I'm not a widow so I'm maybe not the best judge.

Does the President call the family of all dead soldiers now? Or is it only for special occasions?

So what did the widow have to say? All I see is what "Representative Wilson" had to say about the President's comment.

Nothing so far, she probably doesn't want to be involved in this shit since she knows she would likely begin to receive death threats from all the crazies out there, she's busy mourning.

Not sure, I think that shes still grieving means she is probably trying to avoid the press, but the soldiers mother has responded. URL is too long, but Ill quote part of this Washington Post article:

She was crying the whole time, and when she hung up the phone, she looked at me and said, He didnt even remember his name. Thats the hurting part.

Wilson went on to say Trump was almost like joking. He said, Well, I guess you knew something to the effect that he knew what he was getting into when he signed up, but I guess it hurts anyway. You know, just matter-of-factly, that this is what happens, anyone who is signing up for military duty is signing up to die. Thats the way we interpreted it. It was horrible. It was insensitive. It was absolutely crazy, unnecessary. I was livid.

She was in tears. She was in tears. And she said, He didnt even remember his name.

On Tuesday, Wilson told The Washington Post that Trump had told Johnson's widow, He knew what he was signing up for, but I guess it hurts anyway.

Wilson said she was riding in a limousine with Johnson when the president called, and said she heard the conversation on speakerphone.

He made her cry, Wilson said.

I wouldn't even want Trump to call me if I were the widow. He's a piece of shit. Like visiting the victims of the Vegas mass shooting in the hospital. If I were there I'd decline or invite him in and tell him I think he's a total jackass and a moron.

It always astounds me that Trump can screw up and offend / disrespect the military constantly. Like, it's the easiest thing you can do to butter up 2/3 of our country. All across America, people generally have a good view of "the troops". It's the easiest political win to support / be reverent towards the military. It's a gimme.

And yet, you have McCain, Khan, trash talking the generals, his own draft dodging, etc and now this. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the military, and in general I think the best/only way to really support the troops is to bring them home. It's just mind boggling how he whiffs on this constantly.

She hasn't made a direct comment, although she has confirmed that Wilson's accounting of the incident is accurate.

For what it's worth, Wilson said she was crying and upset, as I think she has a right to be after hearing something like that.
